Owner description: Welcome to the Qantas Founders Museum. We are an independent not-for-profit community organization and registered charity, operating since 1996, to commemorate the ethos and preserve the material heritage of the founders and early operations of Qantas Airways Ltd. Today, we are a world-class museum and cultural display, eloquently telling the story of the founding of Qantas through interpretive displays, interactive exhibits, replica aircraft and an impressive collection of genuine artifacts. Our collection incorporates four of the world’s most significant airliners – the Consolidated PBY Catalina Flying Boat, the Douglas DC3, the Boeing 707 and the legendary Boeing 747. In addition, we have full scale replicas of some of the most important aircraft in the early Qantas fleet – the DeHaviland DH-61 Giant Moth, the DeHaviland DH-50, and the Avro 504k Dyak; Qantas’ first ever aircraft.

great set up--everyone should go to learn the history of this great airline! the displays were informative and interesting-the guided tour was very interesting and being able to go on the planes was good, especially on the 747. The food area was excellent and reasonably priced.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

I have wanted to visit the Qantas Founders Museum since I first arrived in Australia (over 20 years ago) and read about it in a Qantas inflight magazine. I was a bit worried that after all these years it wouldn't live up to expectations... but I wasn't disappointed. The tour of the 747 and the 707 were excellent.

“Interesting museum”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

We visited the museum while travelling through Longreach. Thoroughly enjoyed learning about the beginnings of QANTAS & viewing the various displays. Only a small museum but well presented. Like the Stockmans Hall I felt that some updating needs to be done. Especially would have liked to see the stewards uniforms updated, only minor point but interesting for the women. Viewing the planes in the old hangar was especially interesting & worth the lack of aircon on a hot day.
Shop well presented & cafe looked fine.
We didn't take the option of viewing the 707 & planes on the other side of the car park. It was a bit expensive but the museum itself was reasonable & good value.

If going to see the museum make sure that you go over the 747 and 707 planes and stay to have lunch at the cafe

“excellent well worth the entry fee”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

we arrived early and were able to get breakfast served on real crockery and in glass mugs. good start
plenty of static displays and dvd's and old movies going. lots of seating. so you can just sit and enjoy the adventure as it happens.
spent a long time in this museum and didn't pay the extra to tour the plane or do the wing walk.
heard great reviews from the people who had paid the extra.
this attraction is well worth the money and the time.
