Owner description: Welcome to the Qantas Founders Museum. We are an independent not-for-profit community organization and registered charity, operating since 1996, to commemorate the ethos and preserve the material heritage of the founders and early operations of Qantas Airways Ltd. Today, we are a world-class museum and cultural display, eloquently telling the story of the founding of Qantas through interpretive displays, interactive exhibits, replica aircraft and an impressive collection of genuine artifacts. Our collection incorporates four of the world’s most significant airliners – the Consolidated PBY Catalina Flying Boat, the Douglas DC3, the Boeing 707 and the legendary Boeing 747. In addition, we have full scale replicas of some of the most important aircraft in the early Qantas fleet – the DeHaviland DH-61 Giant Moth, the DeHaviland DH-50, and the Avro 504k Dyak; Qantas’ first ever aircraft.

“Aviation History”

A brilliant display of Australia's National Airline, it's beginnings and history, and it's huge part in shrinking the world for Australian residents -- the 'tyranny of distance' had been conquered!

“Highlight of Longreach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

It is a long way to come, but if you are interested in aviation history, and early twentieth century Australian history, this museum will please. Tours are very well organised, staff are friendly and professional, and the quality of the museum and its exhibits is very high. Even the cafe has the best food in Longreach! I am from Sydney, and although not an aviation buff I love flying, and the trip all the way to Longreach was worth it. I recommend you allow a few days as there are other things to see in quaint old Longreach, as well as interesting day trips outside of the town, such as the unique dinosaur stampede tracks outside Winton.

“An amzing aviation story”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

What a stunning exhibit. The Qantas Museum at Longreach is world class, tells an amazing story. It is a MUST for travellers in Outback Queensland. Not only a brilliant display and fantastic add on tours but also great food in McGuiness's Cafe and a place to spend up on Chrissie presents from their unique merchandising. Top Marks to their well read 747 and 707 tour guides and the simulator WAS TOPS. A real highlight of our trip.
