Owner description: The original Kuranda Scenic Railway is a spectacular journey comprising unsurpassed views of World Heritage Listed rainforest, steep ravines and picuresque waterfalls within the Barron Gorge National Park. This famous railway winds its way from Cairns to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest. Constructed between 1882 and 1891 it is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. Hundreds of men were employed to build the 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges that stand as a monument to the pioneers of tropical North Queensland

Here is a few bad thing or even just things you should know

No aircon which makes the entire trip hot! And the first part of the ride is boring and long. Overall goes for 1.5 hours which is a long time but once your over the heat and the first half there is some pretty awesome waterfalls and sights

Wow! We had a spectacular day! We took the Sky Rail up, with the Diamond upgrade you can get a glass bottom cabin...that part was okay.

We got the package to do the Koala visit, paid for the photo...that was really cool! Saw the bird gardens and Butterfly Sanctuary. Walked around Kuranda, did some shopping and had lunch and drinks.

My favorite part was the train ride down. Definitely upgrade to Gold Class for this one!! It's a bit extra, but totally worth it! Very comfortable, drinks served with snacks.

Just a marvelous time!

What a lovely trip. The staff were very helpful even coming around to take photos of us with our own cameras. The commentary was very informative with lots of history about the railway's construction. Wonderful trip well recommended.

We took the train down from Kuranda and I was stunned at the beauty of all the scenery. The views of Barron Falls were great as well as the Barron River Gorge, and the many other things we saw. I was very surprised by the Stoney Creek Falls...It was beautiful! Lots of great views, but the train ride was pretty hot. It doesn't go very fast down the mountain and there is no air conditioning.

The journey is surely very nice, but unfortunately I think it is wasted if it's raining, as it was on the day I went. Also, remember that most of the markets in Kuranda are closed on Monday and Tuesday.

If you are going up on the scenic railway, ask for a seat on the right side of the train, which has the better view (the left side when coming down). But remember to mention that AT THE TIME OF BOOKING.

Staff is very nice, take the Gold Class!
