Owner description: The original Kuranda Scenic Railway is a spectacular journey comprising unsurpassed views of World Heritage Listed rainforest, steep ravines and picuresque waterfalls within the Barron Gorge National Park. This famous railway winds its way from Cairns to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest. Constructed between 1882 and 1891 it is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. Hundreds of men were employed to build the 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges that stand as a monument to the pioneers of tropical North Queensland

We took the train up to Kuranda and we decided to upgrade to a gold class ticket which was so worth the extra money. The seats were so comfortable and we were offered drinks ( alchohol if you wanted ) all the way up and also given beautiful food. The staff were excellent and so friendly. The view was to die for and all and all would definately recommend the train trip to anyone going to cairns.

An excellent experience. Leisurely, comfortable, very clean, helpful staff. Views are spectacular and it is reminiscent of travel in a previous time. Kuranda station is lovely with ferns and plants in abundance.

It is better to catch the train up and the Skyrail down but you need to remember you need a transfer between two stations if travelling by car.

The Scenic Railway to Kuranda is a sight not to be missed. It takes you into the past and makes you realize how much work it must have been to build that path through the absolute wilderness, dig your way through the enormous tunnels and all that in the mercyless heat of Northern Australia. Today it's nice to sit back and relax, enjoy the perfect views especially when the train goes around the bends and takes you to an impressive waterfall. Here you've got time for a quick walk around and a photo of the water splashing down the gorge. Kuranda station itself is a beautiful place full of flowers with a very tropical atmosphere to it. I loved the first trip in 1994 so much, that I came back to show my daughter the beauty of it all.

We have been on the Kuranda rail 3 times now as my 3 year old son just loves trains. Such a beautiful trip through the Rainforest - a must do when you're in Cairns!!

I can highly recommend The Kuranda Scenic Rail journey from Cairns to Kuranda Village and or return. I found the on board staff to be professional and friendly with a sound knowledge of both the train and local area. They actually appeared to enjoy what they were doing! Special mention should be made of Cate the Gold Class hostess who went out of her way to make all those on board feel both comfortable and indeed special. Her 'can do ' approach was indeed refreshing.

One small downside was the very efficient, very energetic, veeeeeery loud Japanese tour guide who clearly believed her guests had hearing problems and needed to be addressed in such a fashion that all on board had little or no possibility of escaping her spiel.

Kuranda Village itself is a little ho hum however to be fair I really did not explore all the listed attractions.

Do yourself a favour and try the Kuranda Scenic Rail experience when next you are in North Queensland.

My thanks again should go to Cate and all the other Kuranda Scenic Rail staff for a most enjoyable day.
