Owner description: Home to the largest single collection of free flying birds in Australia (some 500 of them!), Birdworld Kuranda in the Australian highlands of the Atherton Tablelands displays no less than 75 species of the most spectacular birds from all corners of the planet - as well as from the earth’s fast diminishing rainforests.Visitors are free to wander through the lush, tropically landscaped bird sanctuary to observe the birds in their own specific - yet natural - habitats. Two lakes connected by a tumbling waterfall for example are home to waterbirds such as stilts, herons and Australia’s own unique Black Swan. In Birdworld's rainforest canopy overhead, blue, gold and scarlet Macaws dazzle with colourful brilliance as they soar above the tree tops. One outstanding Birdworld denizen not to be missed is that rare avian giant, the Cassowary - an Australian bird now officially enlisted as endangered.Designed to "create a centre where birds would be showcased in their natural environment without the barriers of cages coming between them and their admiring public", Birdworld Kuranda is a photographer's paradise. (And without those barriers, visitors often find a feathered friend nestling on their shoulder - a golden photo opportunity!) Birdworld Kuranda can provide guided tours for all group bookings.

Our family ranges from age 4 to age 65 & Birdworld was enjoyed by all. Its a small little place but a wide range of very healthy looking birds everywhere. As soon as you walk in, they are flying onto your shoulders, arms, bags, heads. They will eat out of your hand very gently.
There is one blue Macaw that you have to be careful of as he is a little too playful & naughty but the people working at birdworld are excellent & will get him away if needed. We almost spent an hour in this place just sitting & feeding the birds, watching them play & fly around.
Its a must see while in Kuranda

A must do while in kuranda as it brings the rainforest experience into perspective whilst small quality far out weighs quantity everything is very well presented and obviously maintained
my children found that you can get up close and personal, a zoo which allows you to make contact with the birds will always remain in your memory forever

This is a small but quite pleasant attraction, and perhaps ideal for your first close encounter with birds - wether child or adult. There are umbrellas you can use if you do not wish any of the birds to land on your shoulder. This proved a pleasant experience and I am glad I went in - good photo opportunities.

absolutely loved this place.. there was gazillions of birds.. all posing and ready for photographs.. very fair admission price, nice natural type surroundings... all in all a must see, must do...

we were a bit hesitant because it wasnt presented (from the outside) like it was worth the price of admission.. but so glad we did... worth every cent if they charged double! LOL

what a hidden gem... if you are in kuranda.. don't miss it!

It was either this or the butterfly venue and we chose Birdworld. It was a bit small, but we had fun. The conures were very friendly. A couple rode my shoulder almost the entire time. The guide they give you is very helpful to identify the birds. We went through slowly, taking over an hour to watch the birds.
