Owner description: Home to the largest single collection of free flying birds in Australia (some 500 of them!), Birdworld Kuranda in the Australian highlands of the Atherton Tablelands displays no less than 75 species of the most spectacular birds from all corners of the planet - as well as from the earth’s fast diminishing rainforests.Visitors are free to wander through the lush, tropically landscaped bird sanctuary to observe the birds in their own specific - yet natural - habitats. Two lakes connected by a tumbling waterfall for example are home to waterbirds such as stilts, herons and Australia’s own unique Black Swan. In Birdworld's rainforest canopy overhead, blue, gold and scarlet Macaws dazzle with colourful brilliance as they soar above the tree tops. One outstanding Birdworld denizen not to be missed is that rare avian giant, the Cassowary - an Australian bird now officially enlisted as endangered.Designed to "create a centre where birds would be showcased in their natural environment without the barriers of cages coming between them and their admiring public", Birdworld Kuranda is a photographer's paradise. (And without those barriers, visitors often find a feathered friend nestling on their shoulder - a golden photo opportunity!) Birdworld Kuranda can provide guided tours for all group bookings.

“Lots of fun for a small area”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

It was either this or the butterfly venue and we chose Birdworld. It was a bit small, but we had fun. The conures were very friendly. A couple rode my shoulder almost the entire time. The guide they give you is very helpful to identify the birds. We went through slowly, taking over an hour to watch the birds.

“Small site for a lot of birds”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Many birds within a small site makes for a crowded atmosphere. We were expecting something better. There are a very large number of Zoos or bird centres in the Cairns area, this was not the best of the two we visited and put us off exploring more.

Had a great time at Birdworld. Great venue, the birds are very interactive and the parrots funny as always. A must when you visit Kuranda.

“Nice Suprise!!!”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

We went for a day trip to Kuranda, with no plans on what we would do there.
We came across Birdworld at the back of the Heritage Markets.
It was great to take our 3 kids there. Upon entering you get a bag of bird feed, and as you walk in the big walk through aviary you have all kinds of nice birds landing on you (not over the top). It is a great experience for the kids, and a beautiful set up, like it would be in the rainfiorest.

“Close Encounter with Birds!”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

Full disclosure: I love birds! This was heaven to me. You can purchase a $3 bag of food and seed and go in and feed the parrots that live in the aviary. The variety was impressive and the birds were beautiful and gentle although, true to nature, they can be a bit pushy. They landed on my head, my arms, my shoulders and they were a blast to feed. There are also a fair number of other birds including a cassowary that live in the aviary. The cassowary was the only bird behind a fence. All of the birds were beautiful. It was part of the package we bought that included the Sky Rail, the Scenic Railway, the Butterfly House and the Koala Garden. We thought it made for a great day in Kuranda.
