Queen Mary Falls Caravan Park & Cabins
Certificate of Excellence

Myself and my wife booked for a night's camping, nice and easy, really friendly staff and nice and quiet.
Over the road is the beautiful Queen Mary Falls with a great set of trails.
If traveling from Boonah... Head Road (becomes Spring Creek Rd) has washed away and is closed! There are alternative routes in.

Having learned about the existance of Queen Mary Falls Caravan Park, my wife and I decided that we would visit there one day.
It took us a few years to do so, but we finally got to spend four nights in a cabin at the caravan park in the lead-up to Easter, and found it to be an extremely beautiful spot.
The owners, Louise and Mark, and the staff, couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, the birds were beautiful, and it was lovely to see the wallabies hopping around the park. We did miss out on seeing the koalas, but that didn't put a dampner on our stay.
The barbecues on the cabin verandahs is a very nice touch, and made cooking more enjoyable.
There was plenty of water coming over the falls, and the walk to the base of the falls was very invigourating.
The food served at the onsite cafe is delicious and of an extremely high standard.
Thanks Louise and Mark for making our stay so enjoyable, we could not have had a more relaxing holiday.

In January 2013 my husband and I were bicycle touring in QLD. From Killarney, I rang the Queen Mary Falls Caravan Park and Cabins inquiring about cabin accommodation. I was told that there was only one bush cabin available for $95. I booked the cabin and was advised that check in time was 1 pm. I said we were travelling on push bikes and did not know how long it would take us from Killarney as it was up hill all the way and the weather was hot. We arrived at the caravan park around 11 am. The woman at the desk was adamant that no one could check in until 1 pm. I asked if we could look at the cabin. The cleaner who showed us the bush cabin (#2) said that there was an ensuite cabin (#7) also available. After inspecting both cabins we said we'd like to stay in the ensuite cabin. In viewing those two cabins, we noticed that bush cabins #1, #3, #4 and ensuite cabin #6 were also vacant, cleaned and the beds were made up. By this time, it was about 11:45 am and the desk woman was still insisting that we could not check in until 1 pm. Finally, after paying an outrageous early check in fee of $25 above the $145 cabin rate, we were allowed to check in early. The weather was hot and the cabin's ceiling fan did not work properly. When I inquired if we could get a floor fan the desk woman said that all fans had been distributed among the other cabins. She did not show any concern that the ceiling fan did not work properly. Later in the day I walked around the cabins to see if there were any fans. Cabins 1-4 and 6 were still vacant and there was a fan in only one of them. As the door was unlocked, I borrowed that floor fan for our cabin. Around 7 am the next morning, I peeked into cabins 1-4 and 6. All were vacant and none of them looked as if anyone had stayed there overnight.
We have been cycle touring for decades and now that we are in our sixties, we like to take shorter days and stay in comfortable accommodations when possible. Had we not been riding pushbikes in hot weather and not been tired from a long, hard ride the previous day, we would not have stayed at this place. Apart from the cleaner, all staff we dealt with were unhelpful, unfriendly and untruthful. This place does not make guests feel welcome.

Management response:Responded March 1, 2013

My husband and I would like to respond to this review. This couple sent the same review to all of the local information centres.
We tried to help this couple as much as was humanly possible. We find their letter to be quite offensive and bordering on slanderous. This couple helped themselves to a fan from another cabin, they entered cabins after they had been cleaned and because of this the floors had to be re done the following day, they took all the toilet paper, bin linners, matches, dishcloths, dishwashing liquid and paper towel with them when they left. They will not be welcome back again and I have passed their details onto all accomodation outlets in the area.
We would like to say that we take on board all feedback our guests give us whether good or bad. We treat all of our guests with respect and do whatever we can to help them. Unfortunatly you can't please everyone. Thank heavens this is the first bad review we have had in the time we have owned this park. Thank you to all of our guests for your feedback and we hope to see you back soon. Louise and Mark

Our second visit to Queen Mary Falls, and this time took a group of 3 other caravanners/campers. Teenage kids, had a great time with the wildlife - possums and birds. This was our last campsite before heading home from 2 weeks traveling northern NSW. The owners are lovely, very accommodating. Sure, the amenities are older, but clean and plenty of hot water. The park is directly opposite Queen Mary Falls which has a great lookout walk or loop walk to the bottom of the falls. We went 4x4ing on the track which crosses the Condamine River 14 times, plenty of water and beautiful scenery. Carr's Lookout on the way back. Easily spend several nights here, cold in winter though! Campfires were allowed which was great ! Remote enough to feel comfortable leaving camping gear out during our time there.

The King Parrots and Rosellas at Queen Mary Falls are wonderful to see. The walk to the falls and finally a view of the falls was really a surprise as the farm land around looks dry and the falls area is lush and green. We did think the cost of camping in the caravan park at Queen Mary Falls a bit expensive though and probably would not return.

My partner and I stayed for 2 nites in the spa cabin. The cabin had all the comforts of home including candles, fresh flowers, picnic basket, 2 heaters, electric blanket, comfy bed & pillows , CD player and a well equipped kitchen & a gas barbeque on the deck. Did not miss a television at all. Relaxing in the spa and looking at the bush was a plus. Breakfast was included in our tariff at The Falls cafe - 25m walk from cabin. My partner had the large breaky and I was flat out getting thru the small - bacon, mushrooms, toast, sausage, tomato & egg with a nice cup of twinnings tea, The Queen Mary Falls is opposite the park and certainly worth the walk. The staff were friendly and everything was spotless. Ask for firewood at the office and you can enjoy your own campfire in the evening. The home made goodies were delicious and all food was reasonably priced. You can buy a bag of birdseed for $1 and hand feed the parrots at the cafe.

Having stayed at Queen Mary Falls for a night in July 2011 and absolutely loved it (see previous review) we decided to book for the May long weekend. We had the same cabin this time around.

We left feeling a little disappointed this time - due to it being a long weekend the park was packed and therefore lost that quiet appeal it had the first time we were there. As a result of the extra people the park was noisier and no birds came down to the cabin for feeding - last time King Parrots, Bowerbirds and Rosellas were plentiful and even ate out of our hands. It may have been that there were fewer birds around at this time of year but the extra crowds had to be a contributing factor.

Still think this is a good park but we would not visit on a long weekend - recommend for a quieter time. The falls just across the road are a great walk with a nice picnic area and if you walk early morning or just before dusk you may be lucky enough to see the Eastern Yellow Robins in the picnic area.

Room Tip: Visit during a quiet period when the birds aren't scared away - avoid on long weekends
