“Don't do it!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2014

We were amongst the thousands of people there this Easter - never again! Two showers and 3 toilets to service our area (there were others in the park of similar size) that comprised of hundreds of people. They were only cleaned once daily and were often out of paper and soap. I used the handicap access shower whilst they cleaned the ladies (after waiting half an hour) and the only hook to hang a towel was above the sanitary disposal bin. There was nowhere to put my clothes other than on the toilet - yuck, yuck, yuck!
The brochures talk of strict rules but no one enforces them - the campers behind us were loud until 4am.During the day a guy had sub woofers in the back of his car duff duffing all day. Another lad did a lap of honor at 9pm with very loud duff duffing.

We were extremely disappointed to read about your experience, and appreciate providing this feedback so that we may utilise it in our continued efforts to improve our services.

We were quite busy over Easter and knowing we would be at peak occupancy, we hired 10 extra showers and toilets for the campers. We had hoped that this would be adequate for the increased number of guests, however it is apparent it was not and we apologise for this. If you do return to the park, we would invite you to set up your camp site closer to one of the 4 other amenities blocks that are in the park.

We are very sorry that noise from neighbouring guests impacted on your stay, as we certainly do not wish for this to be the case for any of our guests. Our park managers do their best to police excessive noise between 10pm and 6am, however in busy times such as Easter they can be assisted in addressing noise complaints by guests contacting them on the after-hours number that is available at reception.

Thank you again for providing this feedback.

We love the place and the kids always have a ball!
The kids love spending all day tubing, wake boarding, playing cricket on the oval etc.
Staff are friendly and helpful.

We always stay in the pre-erected Safari tents which sit off the ground on percent wooden floors, they have beds, bar fridge, table and chairs...
We can only fault it by its cleanliness or lack of....It's cleaned before you arrive, hence not getting in until 2pm. When we arrived the floors were very very dirty, dust and cobwebs everywhere.

We will continue to go back every Easter and hope they address this issue.

We really do enjoy reading about how much our guests enjoyed their time with us, so thank you for leaving this review! There is so much to do around the park, and it seems like your kids made the most of it!

We would like to apologise that your Safari Tent was in need of further cleaning when you arrived, and appreciate you bringing this to our attention so that we may review our cleaning procedures and ensure this does not occur again.

We look forward to seeing you again next Easter!

I would like to say how disappointed I am in the way Somerset is changing and not for the better!!!

My Family and I have been camping and water skiing at Somerset lake for past 15 years and each year it gets more expensive and more ridiculous, we have around 20 people that come camping over the Easter weekend every year which has forced us to look at going to another Lake for cheaper rates and better amenities!

I don’t know how they can justify charging $45 per couple per night on an unpowered site, when all you get is a crappy shower block with two showers which doesn’t accommodate for the thousands of people that go to Somerset for long weekends not to mention they are disgusting and poorly cleaned!
My Partner and I went in separate cars and where made to pay an extra $10 a night for an extra car EVEN though we had already paid for our share in camping!!! You cannot tell me an extra car is worth $10 a night when you already pay $45 a night to camp!

Now what is even more stupid is that they have blocked of camping area to day area, meaning we can’t camp on the water and back our boat in from where we’re camping! You actually have to go out of the park and come back in a different entrance which is fine but there is one boom gate for about 50 people trying to get to the visitor’s area!

Whoever’s responsibility it is to make sure all boat users no the correct rules needs to sort it out before there is a serious ACCIDENT! The amount of boat users that don’t go the right way or use the buoys is beyond a joke!

Bring back the RANGERS – when camping was $5.00 per car for the same amenities that where in BETTER condition than now!!!!

IF you’re wanting to water ski for a day DO NOT go to this park go to the other end “The Spit” it is better looked after has huts for you to use and ski from and people seem to know the WATER RULES!

Not worth what you pay for!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback following your recent visit. We are grateful for your loyalty so we were very disappointed to learn that your recent experience has tarnished your opinion of the park. We hope we can provide some clarity on some of the points you have raised.

Lake Somerset Holiday Park has no jurisdiction on the lake itself as all rules are enforced through SEQ water. We do of course do the best we can to identify any issues to SEQ water when they arise so we will reiterate to them your concerns about some visitors not abiding by the lake rules.

As for the new day visitor area, we upgraded this area as it was a regulation put in place by SEQ water and a requirement of our lease. We also wanted to provide an area for people to visit for the day and utilise the lake without infringing on the holiday park guest areas. As such, park guests can use the ramp within the park so there is no need to leave the park. We apologise if this was not communicated to you.

Knowing we would be at peak occupancy over Easter, we hired 10 extra showers and toilets for the campers. If you do return to the park, we would invite you to set up your camp site closer to one of the 4 other amenities blocks that are in the park.

With regards to the cost of sites, our prices are set based on the high demand of the season and are reflective of both the great location and the facilities on offer at the park. During Peak season and weekends when our accommodation is in high demand our tariffs do increase but we believe they are always maintained at a competitive level.

Thank you again for your feedback, we hope you will return to the park in the future.

I thought $66.00 was a bit steep for two adults camping on an unpowered site. I normally travel in a caravan and would pay way less than that on a powered site. Not a lot of sites to dispose of rubbish and amenities were quite a long walk. $15 per week to put the tinny on the water on top of the camping fee of $66 made for an expensive two days.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review, we are continually working towards improving our services so we appreciate all feedback.

When assessing our park for affordability, it should be noted that all guests have the opportunity to access a myriad of facilities and activities that are the envy of many other parks in the area.

With regards to the boating permits fees, these are not set by park management but rather by SEQ. Management does not have any say nor do they receive any money from the permits. These are sold onsite as a convenience to our guests saving them having to travel back into town to purchase.

You will be pleased to know that as part of our continuing upgrade program at Lake Somerset we have planned for a whole new amenities block centrally located within the park.

We hope these comments have provided some clarity to the issues you raised, and we hope you choose to visit us again in the future.

$106 for three nights on a non powered site for two adults and 2 fishing licences. The only amenities was 1 disabled toilet and a broken shower head which was not ideal. We were told due to road maintenance we could not camp at certain places, including accessibility to the water, which fortunately we ignored and thoroughly enjoyed the convenience of walking 15 metres to cool down, and roadworks were not to start until a few days after we left (info given to us on the day we left) We will not stay again however we will use the day park :) I hope this helpful

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay with us; we apologise that your expectations were not met, and hope these comments resolve some of the issues you raised.

I would like to apologise that the upgrades and maintenance to the roads impacted on your holiday. To minimise disruption to our guests, we always try to complete maintenance works outside of peak times, however as you can appreciate, there is never a perfect time. The period leading up to Easter is generally quiet, so we thought this to be an opportune time to undertake the upgrade works. Extensive works like building new roads require the use of outside contractors, and we appreciate your understanding in that sometimes unforseen delays will occur and work will be put back from the original starting date.

We are pleased to inform you that as part of our continuing upgrade program at Lake Somerset, we have planned to build a new amenities block that will be centrally located within the park.

We would like to apologise that your shower was not in proper working condition during your stay. The shower head has since been fixed, however for future reference, please do not hesitate to bring any maintenance issues to the attention of our staff so that we may rectify the problem immediately.

Thank you again for your feedback, we hope to see you again soon.

Very beautiful part of south east queensland to stay. The convenience if you own a boat and the close proximity to the water is awesome - cannot be beat! Fishing and water sport enthusiast heaven.

There are plenty of unpowered sites - I liked the fact you could pick your own, you aren't allocated a site that is really cool.

We stayed on the southern end of the park - accross from the little beach near the southern boat ramp. This had a beautiful view and easy access to the water. The site was a dust bowl though - needs to be rejuvenated as anytime someone drove past we copped so much dust/dirt. Our camp table was black at the end of the 2nd day. There was no tap readily available from what we could find - closest water was the ammenities. Ammenities were too far away, it was a long dark walk to the toilet at night. During the day at this time of year the southern side is hard to escape the sun and it gets very hot - try and find a tree to pitch your tent under. Camp kitchen was far away and we had to drive to do our washing up each night.

I agree with other reviewers about the day visitor area. I truly believe they have the better location than the paying customers. The area is cool, shaded by trees and if it was a camping area you would have direct access to water easily! The location of the day visitor area is close to ammenities and the kitchen... Really why is this the day visitor area???

Another con is the jet ski riders who just carry on like idiots too close to the southern boat ramp/beach. There should be a no wash policy. The idiots have the whole of somerset dam to carry on, why so close to the beach? It makes the water merky, knocks any boats in the area around and I just got sick of the sound of them by the end of the weekend.

The ammenities are OK and functionable, I had no issue with them, they were clean and didn't smell. I just think the park needed more! The roads were terrible but being upgraded after we left.

Pros: View, beautiful location, close to water, boating/fishing access, friendly enough staff, good kiosk for essentials.

Cons: Day visitor area being better than the rest of the park, jet skits too close to boat ramp, dust bowl sites, ammenities far away

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback; we are pleased that your experience was an overall positive one.

Here at Lake Somerset we endeavour to make your holiday as enjoyable and unique as possible. As such, we give our visitors the option of choosing their own site. The Day Visitor area is a new addition to the park, and was a requirement put forth by the council. While we would love for all our sites to have perfect view of the lake while still being close to all the myriad of facilities we have on offer, this simply is not feasible.

We would like to apologise that the Jet Ski riders had a negative impact on your stay. As the lake is open to the public, it is difficult for park management to police these behaviours. However, we will contact SEQ to enquire if more random patrols can be done during peak times in hopes that this will assist the Jet Ski riders to be more appreciative of other lake users.

As you noted in your response, the roads are in the process of being upgraded, and we are building a new amenities block; we hope to have both of these projects completed in the very near future.

Thank you again for providing us with your feedback, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
