It's a very nice place to stay, a basic camping, reasonable ameniiesgreat kitchen (but no barbecue!!). It seems to be in the middle of the jungle and there is also plenty of wild-life (possums and kangaroos) strolling around... just don't be scared to go to the toilet at night time ;-) Be careful in relaying on the suggestions of the front desk people; a lady made us confident about a road that actually was unsealed and very dangerous for a campervan (to Florence beach).

This is a beautiful looking place, very natural, spaceous and green, with lots of wild birds flying around and loads of possoms in the evening, it felt very peaceful. We booked a package which included the ferry ride to and from magnetic island, 2 nights accomadation, pizza dinner, 30 mins free wifi and entrance to their animal sanctuary (Koala photo included!). The staff member who greeted us at reception I think was very friendly and chatty if a bit rushed as it was so busy! We were given a map to our three bed room (there was only two of us) which we had to ourselves, walking through the grounds was wonderful and we loved the look of the huts that we were staying in. Ours was way way out the back with no path (not good for wheel luggage) and where everything looked a bit run down. The hut is very cute with a verandah! The matresses looked very grubby in our room but as soon as we got the fresh sheets on it looked lovely! The room was clean and tidy, with a wall fan. The toilets and showers were a mintue walk away and although clean was in desparate need of some care, it looked very run down and grubby which make it look dirty. The kitchen was a bit more of a walk (not a problem) it was tidy and clean, the fridges needed a bit of a wash, again the whole place looked a bit run down and in need of some TLC. We sat on the outside tables with our breakfast, in the sun made it feel like a resort! We went to the animal sanctuary, where our lovely guide showed us around, you can basically hold EVERYTHING at no extra cost, from a not so tiny corc called Barbie, lizards, tortoise, snakes, stroke a wombat, and cuddle a very particular cockatoo. Hold a koala (extra cost if not part of the package) there was a baby koala too (no touching its only tiny) that we got to see right up close! it was an amazing afternoon!
Overall it was a lovely place to stay, better than the other hostels on the island (in my opinion) Close to horshoe bay and bus stops right outside, not a party hostel theres lots of families as well as backpackers there, staff were good, the whole hostel needs some extra attention to get it really up to scratch and the sanctuary made it amazing!

I travelled here with 2 friends on a packagefor 2 nights and really liked the value of it all. The dorms that we stayed in (8 share) were clean and the bathroom we had in the room was clean as well. The kitchen area was never messy as well. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were knowledgeable about the area as well as questions I was asking about the animals that we kept seeing. Going in the sanctuary was amazing. Tony was very knowledgeable and well as kept it funny and engaging (honestly get the pic holding the koala)! The location was close to the beach. With my package I did get food to feed the rock wallabies which is about a 5-10 min bus ride away. They had bingo on one of the nights which had a lot of partakers to it. The bar closed at about 11:30 so it wasn't rowdy at night. Also it was cool being surrounded by all of the animals out there. My one tip would be to bring some bug spray, there are a lot of horse flies around (they call them march flies here) that will go for you!

I can't really say enough good things about this place, the little log cabins are gorgeous, I was worried they'd basically be wooden slats letting all the creepy crawlies in but they are so secure from that on the inside and kinda make you feel like you're going camping (except with a decent bed...and mirrors...and air con...and a fridge...)

My partner and I shared a double room for just one night, but both wished we could have stayed longer. The bar/dining area is really lovely and spacious, and to be honest I didn't feel like we were in a hostel environment at all, it really is as the name says - more like a little village, and definitely very family friendly - if any noise is made in the bar at night you wouldn't hear it from the huts/cabins/rooms.

It's not just a Koala village either, even without paying to go on the koala/croc/snake holding mini-tour (more like a very exotic petting zoo!), you are surrounded by possums (some cute, some not so cute!), wallabies, very colourful parrots and lots of exotic birds. Those birds can make some ridiculous and loud noises but didn't stop me from sleeping.

The location is excellent as well, the bus drops you from the ferry right outside, and if you missed it - like we did - a taxi is around $15-20. Horseshoe Bay is a 5minute stroll away -and there are shops and restaurants along the beach there. Particularly beautiful at sunset.

The hostel also rent out mini scooters for free, and also offer snorkel gear (I can't remember if you had to pay for that or simply give a deposit).

The Koala Sanctuary which you pay extra for was SO worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining for all ages, lots of photo ops holding crocs, cockatoos, lizards, turtles, snakes and of course Matilda the Koala, just brilliant stuff.

The only minor downside is the bathrooms, they're a bit run down and not that clean, bugs and stuff get in there, nothing awful but enough to make me want to shower VERY quickly (maybe the hostel want us to use less water and this is a sneaky way of doing it??!!). Also I think the staff were generally ok but could have made a bit more of an effort, that sort of thing can make all the difference to your stay and I think explains some of the more negative reviews below. It didn't overshadow our stay though and as I said, the tour guide of the sanctuary was brilliant.

Great value for money and would definitely stay there again, beautiful place on a beautiful island.

Room Tip: We had room 28 - far away from the bar area if you were worried about noise and near the woods so lo...

We had a package deal including a dinner and drink, wi-fi access, etc and ferry from mainland, and stayed 3 nights. Our cabin was clean and comfortable, the shower/toilet block was fairly clean.
The camp kitchen was very popular and very clean, plenty of room in fridge and shelves for your food.
If you don't want to cook your own dinner, there are plenty of places to eat at the beach nearby.
We joined in the trivia night for some fun and found staff friendly and helpful.
There are grassy areas for camping but it's not flat. There is also a nice pool with lounges and hammocks.

Awesome 3 bed share, real forest hut, clean and amazingly friendly staff. Free motorized scooter hire too.
The Koala tour was THE BEST, kids will really love it, totally hands on, Tony the guide was really friendly and knowledgeable, we had a fab stay here! Only 4 minutes walk from the beach, bars and restaurants. Regular shuttles are available to and from the port.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last week and were really looking forward to it, we booked a double room which was nice and clean and good value for money. The bathrooms were gross, really dirty which was a shame, don't get me wrong I understand your meant to be all "at one with nature" but jeez some Eco friendly cleaning wouldn't go amiss!
We met up with some other travellers on the first night and we decided to join in on the trivia night but the staff behind the bar were so rude they just spoilt it a bit really when it could have been great fun there was a family there playing too who said the same thing so it wasn't us being rowdy! We then got cleaned around as a hint to bugger off at 10pm!!
Other good points are the kitchen was clean and facilities were good and it's not too far from Horseshoe bay.
