Stayed at Base for two weeknights and was sort of disappointed. We had heard good things about it but it didn't live up to our expectations. For a start there weren't many people around but thats not the fault of management. The patios outside the cabins were so loud! We were prepared for a party place but it sounded like someone was stomping right beside you whenever somebody walked by. The kitchen wasn't very clean. The washing machines all had different prices on them. It was displaying $6 for a white wash and $3 for colours. The staff were a bit flippant (we did meet one or two nice ones though). We ordered breakfast in the morning from the restaurant and the lady working there- she had "Mama" or something on the back of her apron seemed a bit pissed off that we were ordering 10mins before closing. She made a comment to one of the other staff members about how backpackers are supposed to clean up after themselves. It was quite rude as it doesn't state anywhere we have to clean our own dishes and we were made feel disrespectful. First restaurant I've ever been to where we had to clear our own plates. Especially when there was nobody else there! Drinks promotions were good. Pasta for dinner was basically pasta and a bit of pesto. So basic for what it cost! Good amenities and location but wasn't made feel very welcome compared to other backpackers.
