We arrived at Daintree Valley Haven after a long day's travel from New Zealand - overwhelmed, overheated and very hungry. Daphne and Peter welcomed us with genuine warmth, shared our delight in their wonderful property and offered us the option of an easily prepared meal on their barbecue (an option we accepted for every night of our stay). We were in great luck - the rains had arrived early and we were surrounded by a thundering chorus of frogs and newly arrived migrants including the Buff Breasted Paradise Kingfisher. There was much we enjoyed - the comfort of the cabin, the delicious fruit breakfasts, the wildlife, the engaging walks around the property and our host's wonderful stories and knowledge of their environment.

What a surprise, rolling up to this hideaway at dusk...a couple of lost Americans looking for our first stop on our five week Australian adventure! And what a way to start. After pulling up to the "Cassowary Castle"- bags dropped at our feet and mouths just hanging open- we were in awe listening to the sounds of the forest and breathing it all in. Everything about this place was perfect: the hosts were so friendly and warm but kept to themselves (a quality I love and respect!); the wildlife was spectacular; the cottage was cozy; the Barramundi, ahhhh the Barramundi. Get the Barramundi from Daphne and Peter and go in the Jacuzzi at night in the rain! We are back in California homesick for Australia. See you next time around!

The cabins are good value and comfortable, but best of all is the location. I'm a wildlife photographer and sound recordist so finding somewhere quiet, off the beaten track and with good access to pristine nature is always a delight. The owners Peter and Daphne were very hospitable and helpful. We also enjoyed Barramundi (fish) on the BBQ, a refreshing dip in the jacuzzi and wandering around the lovely garden and rainforest for some birdwatching.

We spent a week at Daintree Valley Haven in October 2013. We found that the facilities and description matched or exceeded the information and claims on the website for this B and B accomodation.

The site is approximately 2 hours travel ( from Cairns Airport and 10 Minutes from Daintree Village which has a General store, restaurants and trip booking services. Our Hosts were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and discrete. Nothing was too much trouble and they were allways available to help.

There are magnificent, secluded, tropical beaches at Wonga, Newell, Cooya and Cow bay within 30-40 Minutes of the Site.

The site is very quiet and secluded. There is a very large range of birds, mammals, reptiles and
Insects at or near the property. We saw or heard at least 50 species of birds and many butterflys and moths.
We stayed in a clean bright and comfortable Bungalow with a view to the west of rainforest and a small dam directly below us.

The site is 40 minutes from Mossman which has the Woderful Mossman Gorge and is a substantial "Sugar" town with supermarkets, Queensland Pubs, pharmacy and Cafes.

The Daintree National park north of Daintree river is a short ferry ride and drive away. We visted Cape Tribulation and Cow Bay.

Port Douglas is one hour from the site. It is a major Tourist town with all facilites and access to the Great Barrier reef via day and half day trips. 4 Mile beach at Port Douglas is a popular and spectacular place.

We booked this place for our first 3 nights of our honeymoon, and we loved it so much we stayed another day! It was great to be able to stay in and cook BBQ packs in our fully stocked kitchen after a 30+ hour trip from the US, and also way more economical than going to a restaurant. We had the place pretty much all to ourselves and enjoyed the easy bushwalk, the lovely flora (some of which Peter showed to us personally) and butterflies. We loved the shed and jacuzzi, especially the games and all the little touches Daphne and Peter added. It was hard to leave this place!

It is worth the 8kms from Daintree Village. A beautiful drive past green pastures and Brahman cattle. Daphne & Peter the hosts of this stunning property made us feel very welcome and we felt privileged to share the environment. Cabin: No sore back yippee! proves the bed is great, gorgeous shower, lovely breakfasts, everything you need including modern air conditioning. Surrounds: Fantastic bushwalking on property with mowed pathways, kookaburra morning calls, lots of wonderful bush sounds, jacuzzi, bbq and books in the big rustic shed. Very private as the three cabins are well spaced and not looking out on each other. Daphne & Peter are special people and you couldn't get better hosts.
