Our three night stay at Red Mill House more than met our expectations. The rooms are basic but comfortable. It is the setting, atmosphere and warm reception created by the hosts, Trish and Anrew Forsyth, that make this place special. While the they graciously welcome all visitors they go out of their way to enhance the experience of those visiting the Daintree area for bird watching.
What a treat to enjoy a delicious breakfast on the veranda and watch the birds. We used Red Mill House as our base to explore Daintree National Park, Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge and the Mt Molloy area. Be aware that Red Mill House is in the countryside and some planning is needed for lunch and dinners as local restaurant selection is limited. Trish and Andrew will help you sort that out as well as assist in arranging local bird outings. We would definitely stay again.

What a special place this is. Our family visited the wet tropics during rainy season and enjoyed warm hospitality at Red Mill House. We enjoyed great advice on local sightseeing, amazing breakfasts, cool birds in the garden and a high standard of cleanliness. It's a difficult place to leave.

What a wonderful spot. The owners were away birding and we were blessed to have thier friend Ellen take care of us. She (and I understand Trish and Andrew as well) is an avid and respected birder and didnt mind that it was our first attempt at birdwathcing. We went out walking and "watching" everyday. She gave us great tips on what to do in and out of Daintree and even in the Tablelands. Accomodations were clean and beautiful (even though we were spoiled by being the only guests as it was off season). There are lots of guide books for every creature you could wish to see and tons of birds, frogs and critters right in the backyard! This is a great spot and yes, the breakfasts were stupendous as well, fresh local fruits and exotics, too. Dont waste your time on snotty high priced eco accomodations that arent as good as this...get the real deal and some real aussie hospitality and more birds than you can imagine! Dont miss Papaya's restaraunt in the village...Stuart makes a mean meal and can cook you up some crock! (better them than us!)

The Red Mill House is a wonderful place to spend a few days, and a great place from which to see Daintree and Tropical North Queensland. Andrew and Trish are unbelievably welcoming and helpful, from a cheery hello as we parked the car, through exellent advice on getting the best from the local area, to handing us an icebox packed for the day as we left. We were not birders when we arrived, but after a trip on the river with local expert Dan Irby and some time just sat on the Red Mill balcony looking at the garden we were starting to get the hang of it. Oh, and the breakfasts (full cooked with a delicious selection of fresh fruit) are awesome. This will be the first booking on the list next time we come back.

I've been to RedMill 4 times before, under 2 different managers. Trish and Andrew are wonderful people. The garden is lovely and full of birds (ideal birder locations). Daintree Village is an ideal birding destination with many good river tours. The rooms are clean and spacious. The down stairs apartment is ideal for a family. Back again next year!
