“Experiencing the best of Daintree”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

My husband and I wanted to experience the Daintree region, and we selected the Red Mill House for our home base. What a treat! We were so well cared for by Trish and Andrew. The B&B is nestled in the trees, surrounded by wonderful plants and birds. Trish and Andrew helped us plan our days in the area so we could see the most at our pace. Breakfast is wonderful each morning, and drinking our wine on the balcony each evening was memorable. We can't wait to come back.

Trish and Andrew at Red Mill House B&B really make this a great place to stay and so convenient. They are warm and friendly and really knowledgeable about the local area, history, birds and other attractions. Trish even makes the prize-winning jam, bread and yoghurt that you have for breakfast, and there's the full-on cooked option with local eggs and fruit. Rooms are very clean and there were disabled facilities in our spacious bathroom. Wide verandahs for relaxing with tea/coffee available all day and fridge on the deck if want to chill some wine/nibblies. Fellow guests are also a delight to meet, so also good if travelling solo. Take the time to walk around the 1.5acre gardens as there are some lovely surprises with flowering flame of the forest and lady slipper vine in August, a stunning milky pine with branches draped in epiphytes, buttress-root trees and saw a bandicoot scrurrying about at night.

We stayed here for 6 days and it was too nlong. They seem really nice but we came back late for our booked meal delivered to us which we were pressurised to agree to accept for 6.30 but we were 30 mins late because its a terrifyingly windy road down the mountain to get back and a ferry ride which you have to wait for but they shouted at us from their balc ony as soon as we arrived and although I said I was really sorry and expalianed they were really rude to us which spoiled our last night and also the evening meAL OPTIONS ARE limited so we asked to use the BBqe but Trish said she would perefer to do it herself and give it to us cost price although we wanted to buy it ourselves.
When I came tp pay for it she charged us 15 dollars each for a meal which i later realised cost her onyl max 8 dollars for and chicken breast and a small bit of salad. Ok but she said cost price and wouldnt let us buy our own. This made me very sad and I realised thier hospitality was very superficial. Dont stay too long or the facade drops.

This is a very disappointing and hurtful review considering the huge amount of extra time and effort that was put into this particular guest. We do not shout at guests, nor do we pressure them to do things. Suffice to say our recollections of these same events are vastly different.
Also, two others reviews listed here are from guests who stayed at the same time and have vastly different views.

Nothing is too much trouble for Trish and Andrew for their guests. They go out of their way to help you find the real Daintree, but know when to leave you alone to enjoy the beauty and peace of their lovely b&b. The historic house is in a wonderful rainforest setting, and my room on the second floor was very comfortable and modern, with everything you could want...including a verandah for drinking your wine in the evening, bird spotting in the morning, or just relaxing. Free tea and coffee always available, village restaurants in walking distance, and the rivers and rainforest in touching distance. Andrew and trish's knowledge of birdlife and nature is stunning, and on a two hour walk with Andrew I saw a whoe load of birds I had never seen before. Take their advice on the trips and things to do..they know everybody and can make sure you get the things that will make your trip really great. And they really look after you...for example trish turned up with gloves and a scarf as I crept out at 6am to go on a bird spotting river trip, as she was worried I would be cold. Great people, great place.

Red Mill House was an absolute treat, Trish and Andrew are the most beautiful hosts and their b and b is peaceful, beautiful and so relaxing. We stayed a week and every day was filled with new adventures in the daintree. Trish and Andrew steered us in the right direction every time, we swam in waterholes, walked along wild beaches, saw cassowaries and their babies, ate delicious food and watched crocs basking on river banks. For an adventure to the daintree, red mill house is the perfect spot to be, a memorable and stellar holiday.

The Red Mill House is perfect for travelers looking for a quiet stay in very well appointed rooms close to the Daintree Rainforest. The rooms are comfortably large, ours had a king sized bed, with ensuite (shower, sink, toilet) facilities. Large verandah covers the area outside the bedrooms with an open area near the kitchen and lounge with tables and chairs. There's always hot water for tea or coffee, a TV in the lounge with internet access. Breakfasts are very well done. Hosts could not be better! Very knowledgable about the birds, local animals, and flora. Trish took me out for an introductory bird watch and Andrew pointed out bandicoots in the garden come evening. The Forsyth's will find the best tours for your interests and will sit down with you with a map explaining all the area, according to what's there and what your interests are. This place is best for adults (very quiet), bird watchers, naturalists, and all looking for a peaceful and comfortable place to rest close to the Daintree National Forest, adjacent to the Daintree River in a very quiet, beautiful area.

Room Tip: We were upstairs on the end - very quiet.

4 nights and days of soothing fun. Genuine "Queenslander" house on beautiful site. Cheerful wake-up calls by the 6:30AM kookaburra made me happy. The hosts, Trish and Andrew are funny, kind, and terrific resources. Helped me fill the days with interesting events and made the evenings peaceful. On the last morning, stood at the top step not wanting to leave.
