“A Spa to die for”

Hi Terry and Kelda

I wanted to put in writing the highlight of the experience we had at the Eco Lodge especially at the Spa. The Spa service and offerings were the best we have ever experienced and we are Spa buffs. It is far superior to say Lizard Island where we spent 7 days last year. Kelda and her team were excellent in specific they were:

Attentive to our needs
Listened well
Explained the treatments
Brilliant at the massages and all the other treatments

We genuinely enjoyed our stay.

Be warned....don't accept rooms #1-2-3! Not only are they very close to the road, but they also overlook the restaurant and are over the main reception/spa area. Noise would be a definite issue. Do ask for a room with a spa...worth the extra $$ and tell them you would like a room starting at #7 and above.

We just returned and I must say our feelings are mixed. We had a great time with Juan, one of their guides. He is superb! Our room, #6, was very nice, but too close to the reception area. The young people working there are all very kind and friendly. Their best asset!

Our main issue was with the restaurant. The menu is very limited (though my husband thought the kangaroo was superb!) and the chef is extremely inflexible. On the second night there, we were advised that there would be a reception in the restaurant which we were welcome to join. We had no choice as we didn't have a car to go elsewhere....duh! It was buffet style and the food was about as good as a low class cafeteria. The insult was that they charged us $55 pp for this or about $20 more than any of their regular menu selections. After much complaining, we were told we could order from the menu, but would still have to eat at the same time the reception was held. In other words, we had to sacrifice our wish for a quiet evening and pay for it! Very poorly handled and the owners were there and were completely aware of the situation.

Other than suggesting some improvements in their restaurant, we highly recommend the lodge. The rainforest is a truly magnificent experience.

  • Liked — the location in the rainforest
  • Disliked — the inflexibility and limited food selection of the restaurant

I feel that I have been conned! The photos in the brochure and description do not prepare you for a hotel just off the road in very little grounds. This was supposed to be one of the highlights of our trip but was a disappointment.
We stayed for 4 nights, and at that time there were no local restaurants open in the evening so we had to eat in the hotel. The menu was limited, expensive and over 4 days repetative. It would have been lovely to have had the option of lighter style bar snacks for instance. Everything had a tired feel about it and the bathroom is tiny.
The area is fascinating, and we did enjoy driving up to Cape to Tribulation; going on a trip with "Sauce" on the river and a fabulous days Birdwatching.
We just feel that this hotel sells something its doesn't deliver.

We enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Eco Lodge (late Oct 08). It is a really special place. The staff are especially friendly and helpful. Thanks to Trip Advisor contributors we booked a Spa Villa at the quiet end of the resort ( Cabin 12). The spa on the balcony, the candles and aromatherapy products, the superb breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the water all contributed to a memorable experience. I booked a massage that included a body scrub and vichy shower. I rate it as the best natural therapy session I have ever experienced. I floated out of the therapy room.
During the day we made trips to Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation and discovered the surrounding area. The only disappointment was the food. Not enough variety and too much focus on presenting authentic bush tucker. This detracted from the taste of the food. As there are no real options for eating out at nearby restaurants by the 3rd nite I was dreading eating at the Eco Lodge again. A 2 nite stay would have been a better option. Next year we plan to stay at Sily Oaks Lodge overlooking the Mossman River. The renovated cabins are stunning and food at the restaurant was fantastic.
Overall, l would recommend the Eco Lodge and Spa as a must do once in your lifetime. - A unique and memorable experience.

Get away from it all at the Eco Lodge... we ended our honeymoon here and it was fantastic - ever so romantic..

Staff fantastic, so so helpful - couldn't do enough to help us.. made a welcome change fom city hotels where people could not give a stuff about you

Great food every night (even through a power cut) - for me it made it more romantic.. just candles and the rainforest...

Awesome spa - loved it

Its a beatiful natural place, at one with the forest - do not go expecting absolute bug free luxury - there are living things in the rainforest (but they do not get into the rooms - promise)

Go - you will not regret it.

We booked a four day stay at the Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa simply because it looked good on the website. Upon arrival we knew we were in for a very special experience. I was ready for some quality R & R as I am going through treatment for breast cancer. The Eco Lodge is in an amazing tropical setting, the individual tree-house style bungalows were private and very comfortable with the rainforest and all its inhabitants right outside our door! There is a distinct link to the Aboriginal community which we found extremely interesting with guided wildlife walks and beautiful treatments in the Day Spa which use their own beautiful and exotic natural products with an Aboriginal influence. It was heaven! And their restaurant is first-class with great service. I would enthusiastically recommend the Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa to fellow Australians and overseas visitors alike.

Trip of a lifetime, and what a trip it was... we took off on a 4 months round the world vacation and experienced some great places and people... a highlight has to be the 3 nights we stayed in the Daintree.

We arrived and from the word "go" we were impressed, fast friendly service, and an ideal tropical rainforest location. We have stayed on other trips, and this one, in many top resorts and destinations including other rainforest experiences around the world, and would have to say we found this one, one of the easiest... easy to get to, you can self drive, and it is straight north of the Cairns international airport, yet, with rainforest all around, you really do feel you are in "deeper" than you really are.

We would like to commend the Lodge on every aspect of their guest services, from the restaurant (which has a colourful menu, and lots of locally sourced products, including native ingredients... it is a dining experience), they were also very accommodating to our requests, given that we had been traveling extensively one night we just wanted "simple" meals, and they were more than willing to look after us. The rooms are smaller than we first expected, but all that we needed, given that we were more about the there is to experience than being in our room all day... and the jacuzzi on the balcony made for a wonderful afternoon... identifying wildlife, listening to the variety of bird calls, and sipping a little bubbly... the fact that they are screened all the way around, completed the rainforest experience just nicely for us... leaving the room open for the smells and sounds, but not having to worry about intruding mosquitos and bugs.

We also went on a guided walk with a local Aborigine and a new girl he was training, and had the most wonderful time... we learnt so much, and have such a better appreciation of the rainforest and its people. The waterfall on site, although small, was so special, we experienced feelings there we have only ever experienced in some very special places around the world. And the manner, knowledge, and personal contact we received from the two guides were above expectations. We ended up a little busier than we first thought, thinking we were coming to the rainforest to just relax and unwind, there is so much more to do, with the guided walk one morning, an evening river cruise one afternoon (now that was also special... the environment, the wildlife and the timing of the cruise, just perfect)... we couldn't chose from the horseriding or jungle surfing, and then ofcourse there is the spa treatments... now, what a way to spend time... we have had massages around the world, and never felt the way we did after these treatments... truly unique! (I think it's the mix, the environment, and how we felt going in to the treatment that made it even more super special) ... and of course the quality of the therapists!! Two lovely and very special young ladies.

All in all, the collection of friendly staff made this property not only a great rainforest lodge but a very welcoming and accommodating place, one that if we can't return to, we would definitely like to recommend to others....
