Beautiful place to stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant that night and it was some of the best Australian inspired food I have ever had. We chose to have the degustation 5 course meal. My partner is vegetarian whilst I am not so the chef (Sam) managed to put a vegetarian equivalent together at short notice and it was just as good. Truly spectacular food with great Aussie wines to match. We chose to have a private dinning area set aside where they provided outside decor with a fire. I had been planning to propose to my partner at some stage during my holidays in far North Queensland and due to everything being perfect at this place I did it that night. She said yes and the rest is history. Highly recommend.

Good:
- stunningly beautiful, one of the most amazing surroundings
- beautiful rooms, very comfy beds and pillows
- great service
- beautiful pool
- great hiking trails right around the resort, we went along the river for hours and had a last, we saw snakes and lots and lots of birds

Bad:
- yes overpriced
- food is so-so and unfortunately a bit too typical bland Aussie fare (sorry Australians), breakfast is forgettable

We stayed in the Eco Lodge for 3 nights and basically didn't leave it! This was partly due to the fact that we didn't have a car, rental or otherwise, and partly due to the helpful staff never quite delivering the tours we thought we had asked them to book... the lack of the car was always the stumbling block which did surprise us in an eco lodge! The staff are incredibly helpful and attentive even down to explaining all the elements of the great tasting food put in front of us. Steve the gardener and general guide knew his stuff and is a true rainforest ecologist.

The fact that the eco lodge is in receivership may have contributed to the procrastination over our proposed tours, the eco lodge is obviously the gateway to a beautiful rainforest so we are going to come back as grey nomads when we have retired in 5 years time as we are sure it will still be here! Perhaps the new owners will, in due course, upgrade the whole site which the eco lodge rightly deserves... along with accommodating the many tours that we missed out on! We also missed out on using the spa, we asked for a booking but whilst sitting writing this review realised that neither the staff or us followed up the request... the rainforest setting slows everything down especially your brain!

We would highly recommend staying here, the staff are great but do bring your un-eco car to fully appreciate this are of FNQ.

Room Tip: Not about the rooms but you do really need a car!

Sure its overpriced and the rooms in need of a lick of paint and an upgrade to match the $, however, tranquility, cleanliness and great food and service count for a lot. The spa suites overlooking and overhanging the rainforest are spectacular, wine on the balcony with huge metalic butterflies drifting past on the afternoon breeze is hard to beat. All in all a great relaxing environment to unwind

My husband and I stayed in the Eco lodge for 4 nights in July -we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and I cannot think of a more relaxing and romantic experience. We dined in style -the setting was beautiful overlooking a lagoon in the rainforest - and we shared some wonderful spa experiences. We had some amazing experiences of the natural world while there with a trip through the rainforest led by an Aboriginal guide,a trip to Cape Tribulation led by a very knowledgeable eco guide and snorkelling on the outer reef which was spectacular.
The staff at Eco lodge were super friendly and helpful. Although it was a bit expensive, talking to the locals had given us an idea of how difficult it is to run tourist operations in this area, so we were happy to pay for a completely wonderful experience.

Room Tip: The rooms are cabins cantilevered over the rainforest so you have the whole experience of the rainforest, including noise (waterfalls, birds, rustlings) so if you're a light sleeper take ear plugs. For us it was a welcome part of the experience.
