“Superb Daintree Birdwatching”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

A great early morning birdwatching trip on the Daintree River with a knowledgeable and engaging guide who ensured everyone had a really good experience. Small group, individual attention, an ideal boat with electric motor option for some quiet, low speed, stealth viewing and comfortable swivel seats to make it easy to quickly switch your viewing from side to side. Everyone on our trip had a great time in spite of the fact that we all had quite different levels of knowledge but a shared interest in seeing some really interesting birds up close. We saw 20+ species in two hours, but would have seen less than half that without Murray's spotting skills.

“Best way to see the Daintree River!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We wanted to explore a bit of the Daintree river, and this tour was perfect! Two hours on the river, fascinating & knowledgable commentary by Murray, a plethora of birdlife, some crocs and other wildlife...all with the backdrop of the setting sun behinnd majestic mountains. We loved the tour so much, we did it again the next morning! We really appreciated the enthusiasm of our guide, his deep knowledge of the river and the animals' habits, and incredible ability to spot the most elusive of creatures. Best of all, we didn't feel like it was a production-line tourist trip. Highly reccommended!

“Absolutely fabulous!”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

What a wonderful day with Murray...starting on the misty Daintree River in his very comfortable boat. He is so knowledgable and the combination of his " secret spots" plus an eagle eye made both the river tour and the land trip afterwards simply the best....can I give him more than a five?? We saw 67 species of birds and heard quite a few more, crocs, snakes and he told us all about the trees, mangroves, local history etc. This trip is a must for all bird lovers and a very educational and pleasant trip for visitors just wanting to do as much as possible in a short stay. I would recommend the Daintree Boatman as a number one on your to-do lists.

“A highlight of our trip”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

An excellent choice for anyone who enjoys nature. Small but very comfortable boat (holds 8?—there were 5 on our cruise). The seats were remarkably comfy, swiveling in any direction, leaning back as needed, and just easy to sit in for a couple of hours. No canopy on the boat means you can easily see up and around to view birds overhead or high in the trees.
Murray, the guide, shares his vast knowledge of the river’s ecology—birds, plants, reptiles, insects—and history. Not only does he know where to locate specific species, but he is extremely respectful of all the creatures, even taking the trouble to replace an ant back on its tree unharmed after showing it to us.
Our family are nature nuts who take boat cruises whenever possible and we all felt this one got top marks both on value and quality. Just as a measure, our 14-year-old son said this was the best boat trip by far of the three we had during our Australia vacation and I tend to agree.

“Amazing dawn cruise”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

My father and I (and 4 others) took the dawn cruise on 14 July 2013. Murray is an affable and knowledgeable guide, with an obvious love of and passion for the area, as well as an eagle eye for spotting the wildlife. I chose this this cruise as I am a keen birder, and was not disappointed with 6 new sightings, with the highlights for me being a juvenile Great-billed Heron and a pair of Papuan Frogmouths. Reptiles included a Green Tree Python and Eastern Water Dragon. The river itself at that time of day was just stunning, and worth the hour an three quarter drive from Trinity Beach!
I would recommend this trip to anyone, whether a birder or not. It's just a beautiful part of the world, and thanks to Murray I left with a greater understanding and knowledge of this area.
