Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Small and very personal (max. 10) boat tour. Operating since 1993. Experienced, science-based information. See and do much more than on a large boats's one-hour croc-spotting tour. We go where most boats can't and see many special things that they won't. Many people have said that their tour was the highlight of their vacation. "The Nightwatchman" is a 6 metre, open-topped ,shallow draft aluminium punt with 10 very comfortable swivel seats. Powered by quiet, eco-friendly, low emission, fuel-injected "state of the art" 60 hp 4-stroke Mercury outboard motor. One of the best nature-based Daintree River Tours. Private Tours are also available. More than twenty three years of experience on the river.

“Crocs, crocs and more crocs”

We did the evening spotlighting tour - wow!! what fun!! He picked us up at the boat dock near the ferry. It was just us and another family. The boat is cool with seats that turn 360 degrees so you won't miss a thing. We saw about 10 croc, many birds, a beautiful sunset and bats. The crocs are cool on the banks, but even better when you see them swimming in the water after dark!!
Dan is a great guide and very knowledgeable of the river and all that is in it.

* A fantastic tour in a little boat
* Dan Irby was a brilliant guide. He answered all the questions we had about crocodiles, birds, mangroves, stars, seasons,...
* We saw many crocodiles because Dan had a very good eye for it. Best guide I haver had!
* The feeling of beeing on the Daintree river with a beautiful sunset was AMAZING!

“Brilliant experience”

We had an awesome adventure together with Dan Irby. We saw a lot of crocodiles, birds and insects combined with a wonderful sunset. The private character of the tour (only the six persons of our own group there) was an extra bonus together with the information and funny comments of the guide. Definitely a must do when you are around the daintree river!

“Crocs in the Daintree!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2014

We booked an afternoon tour with Dan Irby and had a great time. On meeting Dan at the agreed time my family and I shared Dan's boat along with another couple. We found Dan to be a friendly, informative and professional guide and his knowledge of the river and its habitat to be excellent. The boat has very good comfortable seats that swivel 360 degrees - just make sure you take a hat and sun cream and sun lotion as it's not covered.

We didn't know what we'd see on our two hour trip, but it surpassed our expectations with 11 salties (including "Scarface" at a mere 5 metres long!!), multiple kingfishers and lots of other wildlife.

We know we saw more than some other tours and this was due to Dan's patience and knowledge of the river. We would thoroughly recommend Dan's Mangrove Adventures - thanks Dan!

“What a wonderful time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2014

It was brilliant.

Small boat, that felt remarkably flimsy next to a 5.5m crocodile. Dan was knowledgeable, careful of the surrounds and a great skipper.

We saw plenty of birds and crocodiles and managed to take some wonderful photos.

I can't say enough good things about this trip. It is a world of its own, peaceful, tranquil and fascinating.
