Owner description: Very personal (max. 10) nature-based Daintree River tour. Experienced, friendly and science-based information. We think the tour when on a small boat is so much better than tours on the other larger 20, 24, 30-50 seat boats that also tour the river. (Doing usual their usual one-hour croc-spotting tours while sitting shoulder to shoulder on hard bench seats). (On some boats the people are all sitting facing toward the inside of the boat). We go for longer tours (minimum two hours) and go places where many boats can't go because they are limited by limit and larger boat sizes. We get to see many magical places that they they can't. Several times over the years people have told me that their Mangrove Adventures tour was the highlight of their Australian vacation. "The Nightwatchman" is a small 6 metre, open-topped, punt with 10 comfortable swivel seats. Powered by quiet 60 hp 4-stroke outboard motor. And we don't offer any other marketing gimmicks other just passion and careing.

We visited Australia in December 2012 and one of our highlights was this trip with Dan Irby. We did this trip wiht our two daughters of 19 and 20 and they loved it as well. We went in the afternoon and evening and the quietness, the huge amount of bats and of course the very interesting information of Dan made it an unforgettable experience. I can highly recommend this trip. Thank you Dan and be careful with the salties!

My daughter and I spent an evening on the river with Dan, while visiting Cape Tribulation. We had a wonderful time. Dan is, first and foremost, a lovely man, and a pleasure to spend time with. He is easy going, thoroughly knowledgable and a joy to be with. The river is beautiful and so peaceful at sunset. We enjoyed the serenity of the river, the views and the quiet. We saw the sunset, the 'moonrise', the egrets and fruit bats above, the crocs, snakes, tree frogs, the kingfisher bird perched on a branch. Dan educated us about the mangroves and how they grow and live, and how the seeds take hold. Dan has a fantastic eye as far as seeing the wildlife along the riverbanks. Incredible! Meanwhile, it's a really lovely evening, (a couple of hours), out on the river, enjoying the beauty of the river and the wildlife, the beauty of the sunset, and the time spent with Dan, who is as nice a person as you will come across-you will enjoy your time with him. I hope we get to come back and spend another evening with Dan!!!

Our family of 2 adults and 3 kids under 12 had a fun and excellent adventure with Dan. He's great with the kids and very patient when they struggle to ask questions or interrupt. He's a wealth of knowledge and answered all of our questions. He pointed out a ton of animals and explained their habitats and behaviors. We took the early evening cruise so we saw dusk and then darkness. Lots of wonderful birds and plant stories, like how mangroves use the water salinity to find their ideal growing spots. A highlight was seeing thousands of fruit bats flying directly overhead as they took their nightly food run. He found us 3 crocodiles using his spotlight to reflect off their eyes in the darkness. Great fun!

We got picked up Dan by the riverside, and said hello to the other people joining us this evening. We felt really comfortable and taken care of with this small unit of people. Dan showed us, and told us a lot about the rainforest. We learned about mangrooves, birds, tree ants, local history and crocodiles. The tour started out with light, and in the end we had darkness. It's brilliant. You get to see the rainforest by light, and now you can go crocodile spotting and see all the bats. Dan spotted a crocodile near the river, and to come so close to such an amazing creature was just amazing!!!! We had been traveling for three weeks, and this was just a perfect end to it all. Thank you Dan. I can easily recommend this to all. I had some friends who took a day-tour (another company then Dan) and they would go with Dan next time!

We did the evening tour and it was amazing. Cruising up and down the Daintree as the sun slowly set, with crocodiles, wading birds and thousands of bats flying overhead was pretty spectacular. If you are staying somewhere in the Daintree make sure you eat beforehand, because although Dan was kind enough to drop us off first, we couldn’t make it back in time before all the restaurants/food outlets closed (we were lucky that our helpful host from the Daintree Wilderness Lodge took pity on us and whipped us up some delicious toasted sandwiches so my pregnant wife didn’t starve).
