“Wonderful Entire day tour with Pete”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

In one word: Fantastic! Our family of 2 adults and 3 kids under 12 spent the day adventuring in the Daintree with Pete. We licked ant butts (source of ascorbic acid), watched fruit bats resting, picked apart Cassowary poop, watched a leech grow on Pete's wrist (he put it there on purpose since it's good luck), saw spiders the size of a small plate, ate native fruits, climbed on the gorgeous roots of a mangrove, caused touch sensitive plants to fold-up, and learned so many fun details of wild lives of local flora and fauna.

This was my single best day of 15 spent in Western Australia. He served tea and biscuits in mid-morning, later followed by a lunch and home-made cookies. He's a joy and has a endless supply of fascinating stories from his life; someday we'll come back for a multi-day tour!

“Maybe the top highlight of our entire Australian trip”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

My husband and I had the opportunity to go on a tour with Pete in December of 2012. He could definitely be in the running for the most interesting man in Australia. He is full of amazing stories from around the globe, which really made the day fly by. Pete instantly feels like an old friend who truly loves to show you the wonders of the Daintree.

Pete picked us up at our hotel in Port Douglas in a 4x4 Landrover and drove us into the Daintree Rainforest. Before entering the rainforest, Pete stopped to show us the local fruit bat colony in Port Douglas. Once in the rainforest, Pete pulled into an overlook so we could take pictures. He was more than willing to be our paparazzi during the tour and even climbed into bushes to get the best angle. Even though we were still in the parking lot and the tour had just started, Pete immediately began searching for local delicacies such as figs and ants!

After our stop at the overlook, we headed deeper into the rainforest to start our interpretive hike. He pulled over at a seemingly hidden spot along the road and led us down a nondescript trail. The further down the trail we went the less obvious it became. Luckily, Pete was leading the way. During the hike, Pete was sure to point out and explain the medicinal properties of flora along the way. If we were to ever be stranded in the Daintree rainforest, we had a chance at surviving for a little while since we now know how to treat a toothache, bandage a wound, treat a mossie (mosquito) bite, a jellyfish sting, and what to do (or not to do) if a leech attached to your eyeball. He was also full of interesting fun facts and stories. Did you know that termite burps (they can't fart) contribute to carbon emissions? Unfortunately, the stream bed was dry so we didn't get to take a dip. After the hike, we trekked back to the 4x4 for some tea and delicious, homemade cookies.

Next, we drove to Cape Tribulation and headed to a secluded beach for a picnic lunch. Pete provided the lunch and it was bountiful...we couldn't even finish all of the snacks. Just what we needed after our morning trek. After lunch, Pete led us on another interpretive hike on a boardwalk through mangroves and along a beach.

As you can probably tell, Pete is easily one of the best tour guides we have ever met. He truly made our day, which ended up being one of the highlights of our entire vacation! We learned so much and felt completely safe the entire time...nobody else could have so easily convinced us to eat ants. If you have the opportunity, tour the Daintree with Pete! You won't regret it.

“We loved our day with Pete!”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

As you can tell from the 50 previous 5-star reviews, a tour of Daintree with Pete is a no-brainer. He picked us up at our lodging, spent the entire day showing us the rainforest, and then returned us to our lodging after. The tour was great - we saw so many things in the rainforest we otherwise would have missed! Pete shows you every tree, plant, log, and insect he sees, teaching you how to taste plants and animals (lick the green ant - it apparently tastes like a Starburst!) and giving you a much better understanding for the unique plant-life found in Daintree. The rainforest itself is beautiful, but you'd miss so much if you don't have an experienced guide like Pete along. We were lucky enough to see a cassowary (from the car!), a frog, a huge spider, several caterpillars, and various other insects. I'd absolutely do a tour again with Pete if in Daintree!

“An Absolute Must Do Tour of Daintree”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

Pete Baxendell is amazing! This tour was a definite highlight of my trip to Australia. I don't believe I have ever learned so much in one day! Pete is knowlegeable, fun, and an amazing person! Pete's knowledge of the rainforest is unbelievable and I don't believe any other person could have convinced me to eat or touch some of the things I did other than Pete!
Although there were many other tour groups out that day, we were never in the same place as the large groups, Pete takes you to places none of the other groups go.
I cannot recommend this tour enough!
Thanks Pete, for an amazing adventure. I wish you all the best!

“Wholeheartedly recommended”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We wanted to write to thank Pete and his wife Trish for the highlight of our recent trip to Queensland. From the prompt pick up and fascinating insight into local Bama culture as we drove up to Daintree, we knew that we were in safe hands. Pete was wonderfully knowledgeable about every detail of the forest, he took us right off the beaten track which seemed far superior to other tour groups from what we could see, showing us details of the plants and animals found there. He had us licking ants, tasting strange berries, showing us the incredible adaptations of the plants to the hostile environment with the boyish charm and sense of fun of the young man that grew up in East Africa. There was no pressure for us to do anything we were unsure about. For two doctors, the bush medicine was also fascinating. This was topped off with a great lunch and a refreshing swim at a secluded waterhole. From time to time one meets truly inspiring individuals; Pete is one of these people.
