“Best Experience in the Daintree”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

This is an experience of a lifetime. My wife an I stayed here for three days. You can feed the animalsIncluding baby dingo, kangaroos, emu's. Get up close to 25 amazing crocodiles. We even were invited for Barra by the fire one night. Our hosts Gil & Donna were fantastic and full of information and also on places to explore around the Daintree and Cape Trib. The accomodation was well beyond expectation as I would say was the best we stayed in in Queensland. If you drop in don't forget to ask to see Gil's pink Croc's.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cockatoo Room

There's such a feeling of love and dedication in this little zoo...and a wonderful chance to have morning conversations with the wallabies! (So, okay, they're one-sided conversations; still, they listen really well!)

I stayed here with my three nieces in a good-size room with all the amenities we needed, including plenty of great towels. :) We were in the pool-side rooms, and the kangaroos and wallabies would come up to the gate. The emus are very friendly, too; a little too friendly for my nieces on our nocturnal stroll. They like to taste one's clothing, but no teeth, so it's all good.

We loved the dingoes, especially the baby, and the bridge walk over the crocs is beautiful.

Since we weren't driving, we were limited to the menu there, but we enjoyed both of our dinners very much: basic, but not boring. Breakfast is good, too; I got a bit addicted to the muesli.

The folks there are very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend a stay, and of course the Daintree region is beautiful.

We booked for two nights, but ended up staying three!
Very friendly staff and volunteers at the zoo.
The room was very clean, and modern. The bed was so comfortable, we probably slept for longer than we should have. Our room looked over the zoo. You could spot birds, kangaroos and emus from the balcony.
A definate B&B feel. Very friendly, and good homecooked meals.
You get free rein of the zoo at night. Very interesting to see the animals being fed - and feeding them if you ask Gil nicely!! (I made friends with the dingos.) Interesting for me as I have seen owls and quolls in zoos before, but never as active as here. You got the full experience to see them night and day. (Just bring a torch if you want to explore at night)
Reccommend that you drive here / hire a car. There is so much to explore in the area - but a poor public transport system. The roads are wide and there is not much traffic to compete with.
Stay here.
We will be back!

What a kick! We took a chance and booked two nights here based upon reviews at Trip Advisor. It exceeded our expectations. Our room was recently renovated and was spacious and clean, overlooking the zoo.

As for the site, it's a small zoo with crocodiles, kangaroos, and birds that also has a bed and breakfast. You can just stay in the bed and breakfast, just go to the zoo, or both. They charge the BB guest half price ($13) to enter the zoo. But it's well worth it.

After our arrival and greeting by Arnie the cockatoo (hello!) and Teddy the black parrot, I got the chance to follow the volunteer who was doing the night feeding at 4:30 pm. All the animals came out of hiding to get their dinner or what they hoped would be their dinner! The emus followed us all around like pet dogs, hoping for a snack. You can actually pet the kangaroos and the emus, if you wish.

The next morning, Gil (the owner) waited for me to get up so I could photograph him giving the kangaroos and emus their morning bread. They were all patiently waiting for him in one big group.

In short, the food was excellent, our hosts charming and incredibly helpful, and the animals thriving and healthy. If you love animals, as I do, this is a "do not miss" experience. And lastly, take bug spray and use it!! The mosquitos were swarming.

Room Tip: Ask for a recently renovated room.

Our short stay in June was one of the highlights of the whole trip. The rooms were gorgeous - lots of space and very well decorated, with a shared balcony that offered a beautiful view over the zoo. Being able to visit the zoo at any time during our stay was really cool - walking through the zoo at night to see the nocturnal animals on the prowl was a unique experience! The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating; often going out of their way to help us. The continental breakfast they provided was simple but extremely satisfying, and the night we ate at the restaurant was a very good feed, with nice ambiance. My only regret is that we couldn't stay there longer, and if I ever come back to Queensland, I wouldn't want to sleep anywhere else.

Room Tip: I highly recommend one of the suites located on the restaurant and overlooking the zoo. The view fro...

Our stay here in February was a very different and unforgettable experience. The room was fabulous - very spacious, huge, comfy bed, efficient AC, well-appointed bathroom. We also chose to eat in the restaurant and had an excellent meal. But the highlight had to be the opportunity to explore the zoo before and after hours - accompanied by young emus and kangaroos.

Donna and Gil are terrific hosts. They are helpful, friendly and big hearted folks who created the zoo and the B&B out of a deep sense of love for animals, their relationship with one another and the land. We were planning on staying ONE night and we ended up there for almost a week before returning to Cairns. The room was FANTASTIC, brand new, large bed, comfortable mattress, meticulous furnishings and a fabulous bathroom. The food was delicious as well. We plan on going back the next time we are in Queensland and we plan on telling everyone we know about it if they are going to Australia. Their animals and birds are fascinating and taken care of so well that this is truly your home away from home and their home as well. An American in Queensland? If this sounds too real to be true, it isn't. We fell in love with Daintree Wild Bed and Breakfast and we all know what love does to you! Incidentally much more reasonable rates than other places and no need to take a barge back and forth. Terrific place! Don't miss it....Paul and Joanna from California, USA

Room Tip: Splurge on the newer rooms...we were in the BeeEaters Room and it was great
