Our stay here in February was a very different and unforgettable experience. The room was fabulous - very spacious, huge, comfy bed, efficient AC, well-appointed bathroom. We also chose to eat in the restaurant and had an excellent meal. But the highlight had to be the opportunity to explore the zoo before and after hours - accompanied by young emus and kangaroos.

Donna and Gil are terrific hosts. They are helpful, friendly and big hearted folks who created the zoo and the B&B out of a deep sense of love for animals, their relationship with one another and the land. We were planning on staying ONE night and we ended up there for almost a week before returning to Cairns. The room was FANTASTIC, brand new, large bed, comfortable mattress, meticulous furnishings and a fabulous bathroom. The food was delicious as well. We plan on going back the next time we are in Queensland and we plan on telling everyone we know about it if they are going to Australia. Their animals and birds are fascinating and taken care of so well that this is truly your home away from home and their home as well. An American in Queensland? If this sounds too real to be true, it isn't. We fell in love with Daintree Wild Bed and Breakfast and we all know what love does to you! Incidentally much more reasonable rates than other places and no need to take a barge back and forth. Terrific place! Don't miss it....Paul and Joanna from California, USA

Room Tip: Splurge on the newer rooms...we were in the BeeEaters Room and it was great

This accommodation was a treasure from beginning to end. The owners were extremely friendly and hospitable. The whole experience of sleeping over the zoo was just so cool. We took a tour on arrival (only $13 when you stay overnight) and really enjoyed the full array of Australian wildlife, particularly how the kangaroos come right up to you and feed out of your hand, emus walking right around you and so many different birds in the extensive aviaries. We had a wonderful dinner there cooked by the hosts and a nice long chat with them, even got to hold dingo puppies! The rooms are very nice and modern - great value. I can't say enough about this place - a must do if you're in the area.

Room Tip: Recommend the aviary rooms - closest to wildlife and very nice rooms

We recently spent 2 nights in the Rosella room. The room was large, plenty of room for the 5 of us. The beds were comfortable and most importantly, the room was cool. There are two ceiling fans and an air conditioner. In this section, there are a shared shower and toilet, these were very clean.

We were given unlimited access to the zoo. The kids (5, 7 & 9) loved the close interaction with the animals. Although we see kangaroos on an almost daily basis on our property, they loved being able to pat and feed the tame ones here. We discovered an emu chick that had been born that day and were able to play with the dingo puppies. We also watched the crocodiles being fed.

The included breakfast was delicious and in a lovely setting. We also had one evening meal, which was enjoyed by us all.

The pool, which was outside our room was very refreshing, as it was very hot when we travelled.

The zoo is situated in a good spot to explore the area as well. We enjoyed a river cruise only 5 minutes drive away and the Daintree River Ferry is only a short drive away.

For us, two nights was probably enough all in one room, sharing facilities.

Our holiday included stays elsewhere and other exciting activities, but if you ask my 7 year old what the highlight of his trip was, he says "We got to sleep in a zoo". If the kids are happy, everyone is happy!

Room Tip: Don't forget the insect repellent!

Staying overnight in a zoo was a little unusual and we weren't sure what to expect and I'm still not sure if it was zen like or simply weird, so probably best to split into good bad:

Thumbs up
Amazing room and ensuite! The king bed was sooo comfy. Close to Cape Tribulation ferry and Daintree village. Delicious continental breakfast. Having a 'chat' with the birds in reception. Nice and quiet - good for relaxing. The kangaroos - who roamed free (within the zoo) and were amazingly friendly. Amazing sounds of the rainforest at night.

Thumbs down
No lock on our room door! The single bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Zoo was very quiet and felt a little eerie. No flyscreen on door. Huge 'golden orb' spider in a massive web living in the ceiling of reception - I accept some people would find this a positive.

Also worth noting that whilst there's loads of beaches and of course the Daintree river trips to enjoy during the day, there's nothing in the immediate area and Daintree (15min drive away) has very little to offer in the evenings - i found this to be a positive but good to know before you go.

We stayed at Daintree Wild for three nights and found it a great base to experience the Daintree region and Cape Trib. In hindsight we probably would have spent an extra night in the resort at Port Douglas and only two nights here would have been enough to explore the region. The room was very large and comfortable, but sharing a shower and toilet was a bit frustrating for my wife.
The included breakfasts were wonderful - smoothies to die for. We skipped the dinners as they were a bt overpriced overpriced - found a brilliant takeway about 5 mins towards Mossman (Wonga Beach Takewaway at the Caltex petrol station) with mackeral burgers that really surprised with their quality.
The real star here is the animals - my girls fell in love with Beep Beep the emu and Mouse the wallaby, as well as all the other tame animals roaming free outside your door. we have many photos of hugs with kangaroos and emus that they will remember forever, and there were very real tears from my 12 year old when we had to leave. Definitely worth dropping in to experience that.

My husband and I stayed here in December 2010 for two nights and thoroughly loved it! We stayed in an Aviary Room which is located on the upper level of the main building and overlooks the zoo - stunning outlook and access to the animals! The rooms were beautifully appointed and the bed was huge and very comfortable. The floors are tiled and have both airconditioning and a ceiling fan allowing you to cool off in the tropic temps! The bathroom was spacious and had an amazing shower. The room also had a tv and small fridge.
Our nightly rate allowed us access to the Zoo which was just incredible! There are raised boardwalks over some of the enclosures allowing you the best view of many enclosures including the crocodiles. The are two walk through aviarys as well as many others throughout the property. Some of the tamer animals roam freely throughout the Zoo so you have the opportunity to feed or pat tree wallabies, kangroos and their joeys and a cheeky emu. The collection of their animals is very impressive and the owners are very helpful at answering any questions you may have.
There is a fully fenced pool on the property that has a shade sail covering half of it so you can cool off in the shade.
The continental breakfast was ample with delicious fresh juice. We ate in the restaurant one evening and food was fresh and generous.
This property is also ideally located in the Daintree only a few kilometers to the Daintree River Car Ferry giving you easy access to Cape Tribulation.
We would highly recommend a night or two here.
