Driving around the Sunshine Coast is always exciting, especially when you find a stop that draws you in. The Botanic Gardens at Lake MacDonald are just this type of place.
We followed a sign to "Botanic Gardens" not expecting much, and were blown away by how great these gardens are. They're well maintained and have amassed a wonderful collection of native and tropical plants to make a scent that you enjoy strolling through.
There are BBQ facilities, and places for you to picnic. The amphitheatre would be wonderful for a wedding, if the day treats you right. There are toilets (albeit not maintained to the highest standard) and drinking water is available in the park.
The only downside (if it's a downside) is that there aren't too many plaques identifying the plants in the park, and there are very few maps showing the different areas. If you aren't a gardener, you would still enjoy the look around, but perhaps wouldn't be as impressed (e.g my wife - the gardener of the family - was very impressed that plant X could grow so large near plant Y.... to me it just looked like another plant...)
