“Coffee and Cake”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

Just stopped by for quick coffee and cake, both excellent and quick service. They had run out of cake, but we had a really nice date and ginger big cookie each. Coffee was smooth and great tasting. Gentle breeze followed by a good rain that was much needed for a hot day. Very pleasant, would stay here if you wanted something a little above the pub stays etc.

We had dinner here with friends after spending the day in the Cooktown region. It was holiday time and many other eateries were closed. Our table was on the verandah where we could enjoy the breeze - it was a hotter inside. The restaurant is bistro service with ordering at the bar, the service was friendly and prompt. Meals were very well sized and tasty. We can recommend the lamb shanks, chicken parmigiana and sirloin steak. There was nothing extraordinary about the decor but overall the place was clean and tidy. Music provided by Max TV inside. Good meals for a reasonable price. Go with a group to make you own fun.

We have our own apartment complex in Port Douglas and recently went on an "excursion" that included Cooktown where we stayed at the Sovereign Resort. 2 bedroom apartment was clean, comfortable and wholly equipped. Balcony was terrific bonus.Staff were very pleasant and obliging. Unfortunately our day of arrival coincided with a massive fundraiser at the adjacent bar / bistro but all was forgiven when we learnt of the cause and how wonderful the Cooktown locals were in coming together. Congratulations to you. We will definitely be back

I spent two nights here in October, the last two nights of our big Oz trip. Cooktown is tiny, and stunningly beautiful. The hotel is just gorgeous.... beautiful bedrooms, so spacious and airy and luxurious. The rooms each have a really lovely sitting room area which was great to chill out in. These lead on to a veranda which was just gorgeous to sit out on and watch the world go by while sipping on a glass of wine. Lovely quality furniture and linen everywhere. The gardens and pool area is really pretty and very well maintained. There is a large bar which serves food, we ate there and enjoyed it very much. Breakfast is served in a restaurant upstairs, again very nice. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, the only slight issue I had was that there was a band playing in the bar on one of the nights, and although it was a few minutes walk away from the rooms, they might as well have been playing next to my bed. However, they did finish up at around midnight, which isn't too late. I'm sure it was great if you were in the bar (they were really good) but we were up early the next morning for sightseeing so it wasn't so good for us. Aside from that, I really like this hotel and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as far away from the bar as possible.

Our room is comfortable, attractive, clean, cool and quiet. The staff have been courteous, attentive and friendly. The food has been delicious. The pool is a joy to swim in, and the gardens are a delight. One of the nicest places we have stayed in. Thanks to everyone involved in the resort.

Great place to listen to a live band, have a cold beer and visit a historic city of Australia. Bedrooms were clean, pool available and great service. Only draw back is the smell of cigarette smoke coming into the open bar. The food was outstanding for a country pub. Plenty to see. Cooktown is about 4 hours drive north of Cairns.

Room Tip: Our rooms were provided courtesy of the hotel and I heard they were all good. TV and fridge with boo...
