Owner description: On these magical tours, Aboriginal Elder, Willie Gordon, takes guests to his ancestral rock art, high in the hills above Cooktown. Here he shares the meanings behind the art, explaining how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people. With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives an amazing insight into Aboriginal society and shows how we all have a spiritual connection to land, wherever we come from.

A group of ten people, we joined Willie for a tour in his country. We saw, we walked, he explained, it was a wonderful experience. We have so much to learn. Thank you Willie.

I went with Willie Gordon and 3 others on a 2 hours guided tour, among the rocks anf the forest near Hopevale / 35 min from Cooktown. It is a great tour! Willie likes what he is doing, and you can see it, what he tolds you is relly interesting and spirituality is also a high feature here.
I do recommend you to go there by the shuttle bus, as it is in fact Willie himself that picks you up in Cooktown, and on the way you'll already learn a lot! Maybe he'lll show you the beast (well ...only a barramundi) in his friend's shop!

Thank sopaul

Willie Gordon gently introduces you to his world during a slow stroll through his Country. He effortlessly provides insights into almost all aspects of Australian Aboriginal Culture showing you how his people lived in harmony with the natural cycles of all life in Far North Queensland.

Through a series of connected conversations as you walk through the hills above Cooktown with creeks, massive rocks and small caves you will see Aboriginal Rock Art through the ages and learn something of Aboriginal kinship, bush foods and survival tips.

Willie will invite you to think about your own connections to family, friends and the place where you were born ... your own cultural identity and how this confers rights and obligations on you ... and how these are at once similar yet different to Aboriginal Culture.

If you know very little about Aboriginal culture and history at the start of Willie's tour, I guarantee that by the end of the tour you will have gained a clear understanding of, and respect for, Australia's natural environment, its indigenous people and the profound connection between the two. Willie's tour should definitely be on everyone's Bucket List. I've been on it several times and walk away more enlightened and empowered each time.

We had driven up from Cairns's Northern Beaches and stayed over-night so that we could take this tour.

Aboriginal elder Willie Gordon collected us at Pam's Place for the morning Rainbow Serpent Tour. Immediately, his friendly warmth was apparent as he introduced us to the history, customs and the lands of his people.

Our small group took the short drive out of Cooktown onto the tribal lands, and began our walking tour. Throughout the morning, Willie was an informative guide, very much in tune with the land and its culture. His narrative - covering all aspects of aboriginal life, both practical and spiritual - provoked interesting and enlightening thought and discussion, on a number of levels.

After a five hour tour, which seemed to fly by, we said our farewells to Willie feeling that we had been priviledged to meet a very special person.

This tour was certainly a highlight of our Queensland stay. It was a wonderful experience. Not to be missed!
