“Retrostyle hotel with nice staff”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

We spend just one night in this well-priced, nice hotel on our trip from the coast to the Uluru. The rooms are nice, clean and have all you need. Also WiFi is for free and quite fast, kitchen and laundry is also offered. The old fashioned look makes it special. If you wish to stay for a few days we definitely recommend this hotel.

I recently spent 6 nights at the Royal Private Hotel during a junior cricket competition in Charters Towers. For me the Royal was a perfect place to stay, my room was clean and comfortable, I had access to a well equipped and clean kitchen and I was made to feel extremely welcome by Trish and Grace, who are both great characters. I had no problem with noise, in fact no problems at all. The Royal is a quaint and slightly eccentric place to stay, but well worth it it if you are in Charters Towers, (which is neither quaint or eccentric).

Room Tip: I was in room 1, (at the back downstairs), no noise, good aircon and big bathroom.

The room was very comfortable and the hostess very welcoming. Unfortunately the stay was spoilt by noisy party goers on the outside balcony. A very unique place to stay but make sure you query the owners regarding party nights.

I love the Edwardian detail which has been maintained by the owners. Even down to the carnival glass and little oil lamps. Well worth a stay. Charters towers is a Victorian/Edwardian gold town like beech worth in Victoria. All buildings have been lovingly restored. Make sure to look at the stock exchange arcade. It is a mini queen Vic arcade!

Room Tip: Room 3 was great

This was quite an unexpected find in the middle of what is basically, nowhere. We were shown to our large room, at the upstairs corner of the hotel,, which had a four-poster bed, and a spa bath, along with the usual top-end facilities. The owners were very helpful and pointed us in the right direction for evening meals. The only slight drawback, which we didn't find out until late afternoon was that there are no meals of any description served here. Possibly we overlooked this when booking, but I don't recall seeing anything about it. That meant a quick visit to the local supermarket to buy something we could have for the next day's breakfast - not easy when you're only staying one night and don't want to leave stuff behind. There is a large well equipped kitchen for guest's use, so it's easy to cook anything you want.
The room was comfortable, although a little noisy until the bar/restaurant across the street closed its doors. The hotel is after all situated on a corner of one of the main streets in the town, and the local drivers seem to enjoy showing off their big V6 engines late in the evening.
But overall, a lovely room and great facilities - I only dock a point due to the fact there is no breakfast served.

Our heritage room was delightful; had a modern spa bath too. Patricia and her team couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. We were welcomed with fresh
scones and on our wedding anniversary
a bottle of chilled white wine was brought
to our room.
