We stayed for 4 nights in March 2012 and used the B&B as a base for exploring the Daintree. What a great place! Coming from a very urban environment, it took a little while to get used to the local wildlife, but Julie, our host since Rob was away, was fantastic at setting us at ease. The cabins are very comfortable, and with full access to the main house, there's plenty of space and room to relax. Everything about the place is funky and quirky and fun. The outdoor bathroom is great...a very nice bathroom, but without walls. The owner/manager/designer/decorator's sense of humor and quirkiness are apparent through the whole property, and so much fun!

Julie was awesome. Lots of great advice and recommendations, and so much fun to talk with. She made our stay absolutely perfect.

We visited during the rainy season so we were either damp or wet the entire time there, but it's a rainforest, so no complaints. Made the whole thing a fanstastic experience.

Room Tip: Room 1092 is separate from the main house and has the outdoor bathroom, very nice.

We stayed as guests of Rob for one night during our three day tour of the Daintree. He was lovely to talk to and to hear all about the fantastic artwork that he's made which is placed throughout his garden.

This place is not your normal boring B&B or hotel style accommodation. It's rustic and handmade, and with all the sculptures around the place, it's a very creative and hand crafted kind of place. The garden is large and so you can explore the network of paths that Rob has built to see all of his sculptures.

The accommodation itself is perfectly comfortable and clean. The breakfast was fresh and delicious with locally grown tea and coffee. We were the only visitors there at the time so we had a very relaxed evening chatting with Rob about the time he's been living there and all the art he has created, stories about the area... and the run ins he's had with the local cassowaries.

Loved the outdoor bathroom - very cool to shower in the rainforest.

But like anywhere in the Daintree, make sure you have plenty of mosquito repellant on hand!

Room Tip: There are two suites available. Try to stay in the hut that is separate from the main building - that's the one with the cool outdoor bathroom.

We booked cabin 1092 principally because of the outside bathroom; we loved using a similar outside bathroom when we were in the Maldives. I happened to wake up at about 5 a.m. and when I went outside the dawn chorus was absolutely amazing.

When we arrived in the morning to drop off our suitcases we were greeted by a young Irish girl who had been helping Rob out for a few weeks. She told us that she had not yet seen a Cassowary but when we returned later on in the day Rob told us she had seen a Cassowary whilst we were away. We felt disappointed at having missed seeing it but the next morning, as we were having breakfast in Rob's dining area, the Cassowary reappeared with two chicks. After breakfast the girl took us on a walk through the forest past Rob's sculptures. We had almost walked past it before we realized that the Cassowary and its chicks were sitting quietly next to the path watching us. It gave us a bit of a shock as they can be quite dangerous.

Thank you Rob for a very pleasant stay.

the rainforest hideway is not a place for everyone, but it was perfect for us. imagine a somewhat rustic, yet clean and comfortable private cabin carved out of the rainforest and you may get an idea what it is like. despite the fact that you are in a jungle with ornamental pools and gardens all over the property, there were no bugs, making outdoor living comfortable and easy. we stayed in the separate cabin, which came with one of the nicest outdoor bathroom/shower setups i have ever used. if you want a quiet, peaceful, beautiful rainforest experience this place is not to be missed. if you want modern luxury stick with cairns or port douglas, there are more than enough of those heartless places to satisfy your needs. we loved what the owner has done with the place and would stay there again. well done!!!

Room Tip: the choice of rooms is slim, do yourself a favor and stay in the detached cabin. it is wonderful for all of the reasons mentioned.

The Rainforest Hideaway is an an incredible experience, I felt totally at one with nature. The accommodation is very clean and comfortable. Rob, the owner, is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, plus the wildlife. I am so glad I stayed there and will definitely be back.
