“Heed the warnings! Book another place in advance.”

PLEASE book ahead somewhere else - absolutely not worth the money you pay!!

We stayed here because everything else around Cape Trib was booked out. Our room was akin to a prison cell ... fibro shed with a small slit window (but with no fly screen to keep out mosquitos so we couldn't open it). It smelled like it hadn't had ventilation for months. There was nothing else in the room except cot-style beds. Not even one powerpoint or random happy wall hanging. Nothing.

Aesthetically it is impressive when you first enter - bungalow-style amidst the bush, but that's where it ends.

The kitchen is a disgrace. The microwave looked like it hadn't been cleaned ... EVER, same for the toaster & kettle. All kitchen utensils you must ask for at reception. A quaint idea in theory, but frustrating when the reception lady is too busy having a smoke, or just not there.

We went to the Cape Trib Beach House for dinner one night (another place in the same price range) & the accommodation looked much better. Would definitely recommend booking there instead.

We paid the price for spontaneity ... don't risk it for accommodation around Cape Trib.

We stayed in a family en-suite room that was little better than my garden shed with appalling beds, a damaged toilet and broken shower for which we were charged $180 AUD per night. The adjoining room was not acoustically sealed so we were able to enjoy every noise that our burping, farting neighbours made! The main communal bar area, dining area and pool were OK. The food was well cooked and good value for money by 2 charming asian chefs. Generally the staff were pleasant enough but this property has all the hallmarks of an absentee owner who doesn't care which is a great shame as it is well located and clearly has great potential to be what it was when "PK" owned it. The are much better properties nearby. Try the beach house or the farmstay. Overall a badly run Rip Off.

Room Tip: Rooms at other places are the best option

We stayed here in the campground for one night. The location is good. Just a short walk through the mangroves to the beach. Toilets and showers were clean but a bit run down.
The restaurant setup is great. Pool tables, lots of seating and a big tv with music playing.
We ordered a pizza for dinner. Had some drinks while we were waiting. After an hour went back up to the counter and they had misplaced our order - so it had not been made. They appologised and gave us a free drink. The food was good when it came out.
Friendly staff, but a bit unorganised / overworked (four staff to do the kitchen / bar / hostel info etc).
We ate breakfast here in the morning. It came out quickly! Large cooked breakfast - yum.

Unfortunately we didn't get to stay at PK's but we were lucky enough to experience the restaurant/bistro in march 2012.
Couldn't fault the chef or staff - all helpful and friendly. I have special dietary requirements and the chef came up with the most delicious meal I have had in a long time. Don't miss the jungle juice cocktail - ask for it to be made on crushed ice - sensational. If I lived closer , I'd be a regular.

Terrible hostel!!!
We had an awful experience at PK’s Jungle Village.
The staff is the most unknowledgeable and rude ever!
We arrived at 5.10pm, 10 minute after the official closing time.
At the bar/front desk no one was there and a couple of guys were playing pools at the bar pool table. They saw me right away. After walking around for a while looking for someone to talk too ….I discovered that one of these guys is the front desk guy!! He, very annoyed as I interfered with his pool game time, finally tells me to wait and go to look for the staff on duty in the kitchen.
The girl comes out and checks us in. We pay 28 AU$/each for a 4-bed mix dorm, (more expensive that a 6-bed mix dorm) that we will occupy in 3 people. When we get to the room ….it is a 6-bed dorm!
Hopefully, the manager is passing by chance by bicycle and, when I ask him what the deal is, he tells me to go back and ask again to be assigned a 4-bed dorm, which happens eventually.

The room however stinks of mold and humidity like hell, and it looks worse than the first barracks I slept in when I entered in the army! Plus …it has only one tiny window ….with no mosquito net ….come-on guys!!! We are in the tropics and in a forest right!!!

But the worst is the kitchen, which is basically unusable. 2 gas stoves working out of 6 ….to serve the WHOLE HOSTEL GUESTS!!!! Fortunately is almost low season and only about 30% of the hostel is full, but we still have to wait in line for the privileged to access the stoves for cooking. Then the final blow! The kitchen does not provide any plate or cutlery ….which you have to rent at the front desk for 20$ deposit!!!!! However, at the front desk they do not have any “real” kitchen supplies …..except for little plastic plates and forks (for free)!!!!!!
Finally, the cooking pots and tools in the kitchen then are inexistent! Only 2 pots and 2 fry pans, not other cooking tools available!!! Bottom line, the kitchen is unusable.
The sad part is that the kitchen is unusable because the hostel has his restaurant/kitchen and we are sure that the trick is to prevent the guests to cook their own to food force them to pay for the expensive meals at the hostel kitchen.

Although cape tribulation is a fantastic location ….We left the next morning for the perfectly organized, lovely managed and divinely located Crocodylus forest village, 20 Km south of cape Tribulation.

Take home message: unless you like a party place to get drunk in the forest (why you would do that? ….just do it in a party city, right!!), stay away from PK’s Jungle Village!

Room Tip: Go to Crocodylus Forest Village .....we had a blast!!! :-)

We stayed in a double room with an en-suite and it was lovely. It felt very secluded despite being a fairly large resort, just watch out for the spiders, they are huge!! The room was very clean and it was nice having the outside seating where you could chill out. From PK’s you can go on walks through the rainforest, or easily get to the beach and the shops on site were very convenient –didn’t come across any others. The restaurant was good, and the pizza amazing. One evening my partners food came out way before mine after the orders got mixed up, but the staff were very apologetic and I wasn’t charged for my dinner or breakfast the next day! The staff are helpful and recommend activities for us to do. Would certainly return.
