Based on all the good reviews here, we really wanted to go on a trip to Cooktown with Mike even though we were staying in Port Douglas, quite a way away. This resulted in a 5am start for us to make it to Cow Bay in time (the tours start at 7.30am if I recall correctly) but it was well worth it. Trish very kindly dropped of a couple of visitor passes for the Daintree ferry off the day before, and in the end we actually arrived a bit early at Mike and Trish's house. Despite our early arrival we were immediately welcomed and 15 minutes later we were off on the tour.
Mike took over where Trish had left off, showing the same communicative enthusiasm whilst telling us all about the region and the various sights and sounds we experienced. The little sideways-running crabs on the beach and Wujal Wujal falls were particular highlights for us.
The food was very good too - a homemade snack mid morning, fish and ships we bought in Cooktown and then a nearby restaurant Trish had booked for us in the evening.
Because it was our honeymoon, Trish and Mike also gave us a bottle of wine as we left - we enjoyed that later at the Town of 1770, watching the sun go down. Another precious thing we took with us were Mike's explanations on the rainforest, which served us well during the rest of our trip for example in Bunya National Park. So a huge thank you to both of them !
