“A perfect day”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Based on all the good reviews here, we really wanted to go on a trip to Cooktown with Mike even though we were staying in Port Douglas, quite a way away. This resulted in a 5am start for us to make it to Cow Bay in time (the tours start at 7.30am if I recall correctly) but it was well worth it. Trish very kindly dropped of a couple of visitor passes for the Daintree ferry off the day before, and in the end we actually arrived a bit early at Mike and Trish's house. Despite our early arrival we were immediately welcomed and 15 minutes later we were off on the tour.

Mike took over where Trish had left off, showing the same communicative enthusiasm whilst telling us all about the region and the various sights and sounds we experienced. The little sideways-running crabs on the beach and Wujal Wujal falls were particular highlights for us.

The food was very good too - a homemade snack mid morning, fish and ships we bought in Cooktown and then a nearby restaurant Trish had booked for us in the evening.

Because it was our honeymoon, Trish and Mike also gave us a bottle of wine as we left - we enjoyed that later at the Town of 1770, watching the sun go down. Another precious thing we took with us were Mike's explanations on the rainforest, which served us well during the rest of our trip for example in Bunya National Park. So a huge thank you to both of them !

“First class”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

Our day with Mike was the best we had in FNQ.

Mike was very knowledgable and down to earth and the scenery incredible. We went as far as Cooktown - and loved the waterfalls, dense green rainsforest, deserted sandy beaches and fresh fish and chips for lunch!

Definitely recommended - worth every penny.

We did a full day tour of The Daintree with Mike and enjoyed every minute of it. Mike showed us all of the highlights including some lovely isolated beaches that were picture perfect.

Mikes knowledge of the area, people, animal and fauna was amazing. He stopped along the way to show us plants and animals that would be so easily missed without his knowledge and keen eye.

The tour was a great way to spend the day travelling through an amazing place.

“Great way to discover the Daintree...”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

We (wife, 7year old kid & myself) took a half-day ride (July 2012) to the Wujal Wujal falls with Mike D'Arcy. I had hesitated a lot - we had rented a 4WD and considered driving out there on our own, then heard horror stories about the Bloomfield track and decided to take no risk, and go with a pro! Well, it was a great decision - but for the wrong reason. It turns out that - in the dry season - the Bloomfield track is nothing to be worried about in a 4WD - there are some creeks to be crossed, but water levels are low, no tough-guy snorkel 4WD needed. For the rest, it's a nice well-kept road (at least from my point of view - I had my fair share of very bad roads in the communist paradise of Romania of my younger days). I would however not encourage anyone to go there when it's really wet - well, Mike himself takes the long and boring highway to Cooktown when things get really tough - and they do. He's a very careful driver, needless to say.
So then - the real reason to go with Mike is that not only he's a nice guy (that's a national sport Down Under), but one learns a lot from him - about forest, evolution, geology, local people and history (ask him about the first Chinese restaurant in Queensland, it's interesting). Actually, if you decide to ride in your own car, perhaps invite him to join! :-) All in all, we have to thank him not only for the trip, but for the following day as well: we followed his advice, drove back the Bloomfield to Emmagen Creek and visited both the beach and the swimming hole he had mentioned as must-see the day before. And must-see they were - thanks, Mike - not to mention the couple of cassowaries, each with a chick, that greeted us in the morning at Emmagen (I'm sure Mike arranged this as well ;-). “Fantastic tour!”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

My wife and me booked this trip by a coincidence. That was a lucky punch! Mike offers an excellent trip with a high price/quality ratio. Besides being very knowledgeable, Mike is also a very pleasant guy, which made the whole tour extremely enjoyable. Don't miss it if you go to Cape Tribulation.
