Ferntree Rainforest Lodge

After a near panic attack from booking another hotel that was nothing like described to us, my 3 friends and I ran to the Ferntree. We were greeted by Douglass and happily shown around and we moved into our room immediately. The rooms were perfect for 4 friends, we had everything we needed. 5 min walk to Whet Restaurant & PK's bar. I would highly recommend this place. Kevin & Douglass, can't thank you enough.

The whole idea of going to this place was to relax and unwind. I loved the idea of the games room being away from your room, the choice was there to either have internet and service for your phones, or to not be consumed by our modern society and just be totally part of the surrounding ancient feel of the daintree rainforest!! The food the chef prepared in the cassowary cafe restaurant was amazing, great service and have walked away having met some wonderful people. The pool is amazing, resort style surrounded by a wonderful tropical garden that just blended really well into the rainforest! Nice way to rediscover yourself and enjoy time with family and friends. Kids loved it too! The beach not far from the resort either!!

Our room was very simple (bordering on stark) and could benefit from a few wall hangings or artwork but it had a mini-frig and AC (no TV, phone, or clock). Free wireless in the lobby, great service, breakfast included, tasty dinner for a decent price, and the nicest pool we've been in a long time. Great landscaping and clever design makes you feel like you are in a forest swimming hole rather than a resort pool. Simply a GORGEUOS setting. All in all we were very well pleased with our stay there.

Room Tip: Buy groceries in Mossman, there is not much to be had north of the ferry.

When deciding to stay at this place I was fascinated by the pictures and the location... but it is the only place not directely at the beach in cape tribulation and the room are mouldy smelly and pretty old. I bet this place was fanatastic in former times, but they seem to be long ago. Rude managers?/receptionist? didn t help to improve our opinion (i didn t expect asking for an extra towel would be such a problem :( )...
I wouldn t recommend this place to anyone, especially cause its not cheap enough to equal things out!
two points out of five for the real rainforest style, which could be the basis for an awesome place...

Room Tip: go somewhere else!

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for my Birthday and had a fantastic time at Ferntree Rainforest Resort. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the rainforest 2 storey garden loft room is set amongst the trees and has a verandah where we could drink wine whilst listening to the sounds of the rainforest. The restaurant is well priced and the pools were excellent.
The location is 5 minute walk to the main restaurant's in town PK's and Whet. Also to get to Jungle Surfing and horse riding is really convenient. The beach is also a 10 minute walk away.
This is perfect for someone who wants to get away for the weekend or also backpackers (dorm rooms are also available). Would stay here again in a heartbeat,

Room Tip: Go for the Garden Loft Room for sure.

Options when travelling north of the Daintree River are fairly limited as a family of 4. Ferntree is your best bet as it does have the garden loft options which are a duplex building with each unit having an upstairs (by ladder to two single beds) and downstairs of a bedroom with small fridge, chaise bench and king bed (2 singles pushed together), as well as a large adjacent bathroom. The units are not self contained however and do not include television in rooms. Being an independently owned and operated resort you do not expect the same attention to detail you get with the chains however the price was extreme given the condition of the units which would be over 20 years old and which have seen very little in the way of maintenance in the intervening years. The split unit air conditioner in our unit had been decommissioned and a noisy rusting window rattler installed instead which made the night uncomfortable because of the reliance on fans and the lack of screens on windows. We had 5 chairs on our deck of which 4 were useable, so maybe remove one or have it fixed. The lawns had not been mown in a while and the entry from the nearby carpark involved negotiating your way through an abandoned building. There were positives; the pizzas from the Cassowary Cafe were great, the pool was cool under the trees despite the December heat, the included breakfast was very welcome and whilst basic fare it did hit the spot, and the staff were pretty good - Kevin really did try and give everyone a run down on the local attractions. It was good to have free wifi and the communal area with activities but it did give you the impression that the resort was more backpacker than eco village. In the end I think everyone needs to know what they are paying for, and this was not what it was necessarily purported to be. We paid less per night in Palm Cove for dual key self contained for the 4 of us in a 4 star resort. Remoteness generally means you'll end up paying more, but these rooms felt like a 2 star motel in a 5 star setting.

We booked this looking for a little luxurious retreat in the rainforest, and unfortunately the room was not what we were led to believe by the description. It was smaller than a hotel room, and not even a tv in the room. The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was small and quite outdated. There weren't even any pictures on the walls!
Everything else was nice. The staff were friendly and helpful and the setting was beautiful. The cassowary cafe was a gorgeous place for breakfast. I would recommend if you want a nice setting but aren't expecting luxury rooms!
