Owner description: Ocean Safari offers an exhilarating ride to snorkel the pristine untouched Great Barrier Reef off the Daintree Coast at Cape Tribulation. This half day eco tour visits two different snorkel destinations, each with an extraordinary array of marine life and coral species. The tour begins at Cape Tribulation beach where guests board the vessel bound for the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef. After an exhilarating fast ride of approximately 25 minutes guests are ready to snorkel two fabulous locations at Mackay and Undine Reefs. On most days the rainforest can be seen along the mainland beach whilst snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, home to an abundance of marine life as well as beautiful hard and soft corals. The Ocean Safari vessel takes a maximum of 25 passengers allowing guests to experience tropical paradise and the pleasure of a small group. The vessel is based on the original design of a rescue craft and is a rigid inflatable boat driven by 700hp engines. The experienced Skipper and Eco Host ensure the trip is filled with fun and appreciation of the Great Barrier Reef and the coastal rainforest of the Daintree, two world heritage areas side by side. Magical memories like these sometimes only happen once in a lifetime. The Ocean Safari check in office is at the Turtle Rock Cafe and Safari Lodge, Cape Tribulation Road and a courtesy bus pick up from Cape Tribulation accommodation is included. Ocean Safari has Advanced Eco Accreditation.

This was a fabulous trip. The best coral and sea life I've ever seen. I got to swim with about 6 turtles as well - a real highlight. A quick boat trip (approx 30mins) and a lot of snorkeling time available (around 2 full hours). There were only 12 people on our tour - maximising our snorkeling time. There was also a young family on our tour with 3 kids (under 8) and they had a great time - so very kid friendly.
For anyone visiting Cairns, the Daintree and Mackay Reef are an absolute 'must see'.

Having snorkelled umpteen time along the East and even West coasts of Australia, I was astounded as to the variety of sea life and colour of Mackay Reef, it was probably the best I have seen! The close proximity of the reef from Cape Tribulation also meant a quick trip by boat and more time in the water. The size of the boat ensured that we were in the water with no more than 15 people, and were able to get to know the incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. The site in which we moored was right near the amazingly beautiful Mackay sand quay, a site in itself, and once we were in the water there was no shortage of reef sharks, turtles, stingrays and we even found plenty of clownfish. The whole experience was so good, that we went back a second time in 3 days, and enjoyed ourselves just as much, if not more, than the first time! Certainly a must if you are traveling to the Far North Coast of Queensland!

I came to Daintree last week and were persuaded to stay an extra day to do the Ocean Safari. best decision we've made all holiday!

From the start it was clear that, not only were the staff extremely passionate about the reef life, they were also incredibly knowledgable. We were made to feel comfortable and at ease from the start.

My mum was really nervous about snorkelling. Not a very keen swimmer, she doesn't like having her head under water and was really nervous about the thought of it. After persuading her this was an opportunity she shouldn't miss, she agreed to come out on the boat and see if she fancied it!

The staff were fantastic. While me and my dad snorkelled off into the reef, Fin (a marine biologist) stayed with my mum and helped her float around the reef. She was so proud of herself afterwards and hasn't stopped talking about it since. She's actually talked more about Fin, Cane and Evan over the past few days than she has her grandchildren! We've since been on other snorkelling tours further south and she has refused to go in the water. No one else has made her feel so comfortable and at ease. So thank you for that!

Now for the actual reef. I have no words that will do it justice. Absolutely spectacular. We saw fantastic fish, a few turtles and a shark! The reef itself was amazing and so colourful. We've now snorkelled in Whitsunday and the reef there was nowhere near as good condition and spectacular as Daintree. A friend of mine went snorkelling in Port Douglas a couple of weeks ago and was very jealous when she heard we'd seen a turtle and a shark! Having spoken to lots of people I have no doubt that we had the best experience.

I'm so glad we did the dive in Whitsunday, because it helped us see how fortunate we had been in Daintree with the exceptional marine life and the fantastic company we went with.

You would be crazy not to go with these guys. Honestly the best snorkelling on the east coast. Worth every single penny.

Thanks Ocean Safari! Can't wait to develop my pics...

This trip was about as perfect for us as it could have been. We were first time snorkellers and being in a small group enabled us to get all the help we needed to be able to make the most of our time in the water. Kane, the skjpper, ls a mine of info about the reef, about which he is very passionate, and great fun! Bryn is the same and helped us so much in the water. We are so gateful to them both for making it such a great trip.

This was my second trip on Ocean Safari and it was just as brilliant as the first!!
The staff are friendly and knowledgable, nothing is too much trouble and the reef, wow, breathtaking, amazing, you are the only ones on this magical part of the Great Barrier Reef, it's like sticking your face in an aquarium.
Half day is perfect and you leave wanting more, can't wait till next time :)
