Owner description: Ocean Safari offers an exhilarating ride to snorkel the pristine untouched Great Barrier Reef off the Daintree Coast at Cape Tribulation. This half day eco tour visits two different snorkel destinations, each with an extraordinary array of marine life and coral species. The tour begins at Cape Tribulation beach where guests board the vessel bound for the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef. After an exhilarating fast ride of approximately 25 minutes guests are ready to snorkel two fabulous locations at Mackay and Undine Reefs. On most days the rainforest can be seen along the mainland beach whilst snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, home to an abundance of marine life as well as beautiful hard and soft corals. The Ocean Safari vessel takes a maximum of 25 passengers allowing guests to experience tropical paradise and the pleasure of a small group. The vessel is based on the original design of a rescue craft and is a rigid inflatable boat driven by 700hp engines. The experienced Skipper and Eco Host ensure the trip is filled with fun and appreciation of the Great Barrier Reef and the coastal rainforest of the Daintree, two world heritage areas side by side. Magical memories like these sometimes only happen once in a lifetime. This is a MUST see. The REEF was fantastic: an underwater wonderland. Everyone should see for themselves, the fish, the coral, stringrays, one green turtle, number of huge clams.

The Staff running the boat were professionals, with all the handling, safety, and instructions given absolulety correct and in order. Glad to be in Australian waters where the standard is excellent.

Recommended to us from the B&B and I have done the same.

I went snorkelling with the Ocean Safari crew in June of this year. I had an awesome time! The crew were great, very attentive, particularly to first time snorkelers, and those not overly confident in the water. Great, fast trip out to the Cay, and then magnificent scenery below the waves. Amazing coloured fish, turtles, stingrays, gorgeous coral, sea anemones, star fish....
A very knowledgeable crew able to inform us of what we had been swimming with. I would highly recommend an Ocean Safari trip or two....

My wife and I chose Ocean Safari due to the number of recommendations we received from B&B owners we stayed with - we were not disappointed. If you are looking for glitz and glamour, with an impressive boat and lunch thrown in, then this is not the reef tour for you. What Ocean Safari offered was a 'no frills' experience where you are hosted by entertaining, knowledgable and highly enthusiastic staff on a small but speedy semi-rigid inflatable. As a number of people pointed out to us, the larger boats that travel to the outer parts of the reef, as well as taking longer, can be subject to the sway and swell of the ocean - not great for those with sensitive stomachs. The small Ocean Safari boat, which holds about 24 tourists and three crew, travels over the waves to an inner reef, so is not subjected to rocking, dipping and diving as much as the bigger vessels. Also, a 30 minute journey time menas you can spend over 2hrs in the water and still have only used half our day, There are dry storage lockers on the boat, so a small backpack can be easily stowed on the boat whilst snorkelling. The onboard bathroom facilities are affectionately called 'The Dungeon' - it's no Ritz, and there isn't a lock on the door, but it's functional when you're out in the middle of he ocean. We wouldn't recommend this trip for more elderly travellers - although the crew would undoubtedly do their best to accomodate them - but families with children (say, 6-7+ yrs old); young travellers and groups would be very well catered for. The reef we were taken to was stunning, we had it all to ourselves and saw turtles, large rays, a multitude of spectacular fish and, needless to say, many different varieties of coral. A fantastic and cost-effective trip that we would highly recommend.

My friend and I had an amazing time on Ocean Safari! The trip was made even better by the small group of people we had on the boat (around 20 people) and the quick trip out to the reef (30 mins). When we got to the reef, the staff were great in explaining safety information and where the best viewing sights were for colourful corals, clams, turtles etc. We were also lucky enough to see whales on our trip back and the staff got us really close to the whales before we stopped and did a bit of bonus whale watching.
Even though I got seasick on the way, the staff were really supportive and mindful of my condition. Thanks so much for the amazing experience. I will definitely come back one day!
