Having seen this tree many years ago when it was alive and well, it is wonderful to see how well lit has been preserved in death, both above and below the ground. I could not help thinking that it is indicative of a once wonderful workers party that happily represented the Aussie workers until it went off a different direction, forgetting it's great historic roots. The people of Barcaldine are to be congratulated for this display. A must see right in the centre of the Main street and outside the historic railway station.

This sculptured tree and surrounds was simply awesome. We stayed a lot longer than expected. The craftsmanship is simply outstanding, and beautifully impressive in every way.

Meh. Tree died, they preserved the trunk and built a monstrosity cube around it. Worth 15 minutes, a few signs give a brief history of the significance of the tree. Basically, the ALP and the union movement started there when the shearers rebelled against the bosses for being underpaid and having lousy conditions. Meaningful displays, makes you wonder if the forefathers are rolling in their graves at what those organisations now are!

A well designed interpretation of the Tree of Knowledge. Ideally you also visit it at night to see it under lights ,there is also a great example of a C pattern windmill with a wheel diameter of 27 feet and was originally built in 1917
