“Absolutely Outstanding!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2009

'Absolutely Outstanding' does not go near how fantastic this place is. Settle in for a lengthy read and I shall tell you why...

We are a couple (33 & 40 yrs old) with 2 young children and once a year we take a short break to have time together, away from work, from focusing on being 'Mummy and Daddy' and to have fun, to relax and to keep things in perspective.

We are both well travelled and we have been fortunate to have experienced some wonderful 5* establishments across the globe. Since settling in Far North Queensland 5 yrs ago, we have been slowly working our way through such places. Our brief is always certain: we don't mind paying top dollar but we want privacy, seclusion, luxury fittings, amazing service, delicious food, beautiful scenery and staff/owners who are discreet enough to appreciate a couples 'weekend away' and not disturb our yearly reunion!

Finally we have found such a place and it has not been without trying a few 'frogs' before we found our 'Prince'.

Allawah Retreat is wonderful. We stayed at the Hideaway Spa Lodge for 2 nights and I began to wish I had booked for longer. In fact, I have rebooked for 4 nights this year!

Nothing is forgotten, no detail too small. From the hot bread delivered each morning, resplendant with an 'A' drawn into the bread, pre-baking, and delivered discreetly within fresh, clean cotton napkins, nestled within a wicker basket ,to the lovely and hearty breakfast foods placed in the refrigerator, to cook at ones own leisure. The handmade preserves were beautiful and complmented the hot bread to a 'T'.

The 'To order' food was equally as good - I ordered a 'Chicken and Beef' BBQ pack and there was enough food to feed a small army. The following evening, the Lasagne and salad which was delivered to our lodge was delicious.

Aside from this, add handmade chocolates and cookies (one of which was so perfect we suspected it was a shop bought ANZAC bikkie, so good it tasted), plus the cheese and cracker/biscuit plate I had requested at extra charge (and I was not disappointed - a fresh selection of 3 cheeses, plus crackers and dried fruits and salad leaves) and we were in gourmet heaven!

The lodge itself was IMMACULATE. The wooden floors shone, the furniture fresh and clean, the bed linen crisp. The amenities within the lodge were supurb - a fully stocked and immaculately clean kitchen, the bathroom just beautiful with a king size double shower large enough for 2 to have a disco in it with wondrous views into the Aussie bush outdoors, the solid wood dining table carved from a huge slice of a tree trunk, plasma t.v, dvd player, reading books, binoculars to view the wildlife....possums and wallabies on tap!

I won't even get started on the multi-coloured jet spa! Which again was CLEAN as a whistle!

We cannot recommend this place enough - Trish and Peter are lovely people - we never met Peter but he made a courtesy call to us to announce that our dinner delivery might be slightly late as Trish was out sourcing salad ingredients...it was late by a whole 1/2 hour! No bother at all!

For anyone looking for a wonderful break away, we hope you read this and save yourselves the many $$$ we have spent in the past looking for a Far North Queensland Utopia. Fear not, you will have found it at Allawah!

My husband and I enjoyed 4 wonderful nights at Allawah in the Hideaway Lodge for half of our honeymoon. It was the best place we have ever stayed. We had absolutely everything you could want or need and much more.

The spa on our deck was amazing, had a beautiful view at night and the different coloured lights in it just made it extra special. Trish looked after us very well with her personal service and all the little extras (homemade chocolates, biscuits, port, roses and bubbly the list goes on).

The breakfast was great every morning with our hot bread on the deck watching the hot air balloons. The BBQ and Pasta packs were well prepared with way too much food but who's complaining. We sat by the inside fire at night and enjoyed watching movies on the big plasma screen TV.

We couldn't have stayed at a better place for the price. The prices are very reasonable for all the extras and personal service you receive.

The location was great aswell Atherton is only 10 minutes down the road which was very handy for any meals if you want to eat out.

As you can tell we are very impressed with this place and I think anyone who stays here would definetly agree.

Total peace when in the lodge with great outlook that goes for miles. Comfortable & lots of room inside. After a day touring the tablelands it was great to relax in the spa and just chill. No pressure, no fuss and hosts on hand - if you need them?Otherwise just open the door in the morning and the fairys had delivered a magic breakfast just for you.
You can even make friends, at a distance with kangaroos, possums, gecko, tree frogs etc

We stayed at the Allawah Retreat for part of our honeymoon in Australia, and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. We had decided to go to the Allawah and stay in the Hideaway Lodge, based on other reviews we had read online, and are glad to say that we weren’t disappointed.

Staying at the retreat is like staying at your own private lodge in the mountains, where you have time to enjoy all the simple things that you never get to do at home. Whether it’s lighting a fire at night, watching a movie on the plasma tv, or enjoying your own private hot tub, you will forget all your worries and be completely relaxed. We can’t say enough about the immaculate condition that the lodges are kept in, you will feel like you are the first person to ever have stayed in the lodge.

After traveling for over a week and only eating in restaurants, it was nice to have a kitchen back and be able to cook, the BBQ pack dinner is amazing! Fresh bread is delivered every morning (placed on a shelf outside your door so you are never disturbed) and really makes for a great breakfast, which you must eat outside so you can keep an eye out for the wallabies that are guaranteed to make an appearance.

The area around Allawah is great for those who are outdoors-y, they have hiking trails on their property, and there are plenty of scenic views to drive to in the area. A must do is also playing golf with the kangaroos at a local course where there are literally hundreds of kangaroos about the course! It is also a great scenic drive from Cairns, which will take under an hour, but be sure to leave extra time so you can to enjoy the scenery on the way.

My wife and I stayed at Allawah Retreat for 3 nights in September 2007 as the final Queensland stop on our 2nd Australian vacation (the 1st was our honeymoon). I wasn’t expecting it, but it turned out to be the star accommodation of our trip. Our cabin, the Moonlight Lodge, was absolutely gorgeous and impeccably clean. It had a wide open view of the valley below, which was entrancing. The lodge matched the website photos perfectly (which is not always the case). We had probably the most relaxing mornings of our lives sitting on the deck, cooking up the scrumptious breakfast items they leave daily in the refrigerator and just being at peace that we were in such a beautiful place together. Peter and Trish were very nice, and quite helpful. When I (foolishly) asked if there was a carwash in town to have our Jeep cleaned of its caked-on mud, Peter quickly offered the use of their garden hose. And we still talk about the best Thai meal we’ve ever had at their favorite haunt in Atherton: MD Hot Wok. It turned out they were dining there that night as well! It was sad leaving after only 3 nights, especially knowing that it would be a long time before we return (we found out we had a little one on the way just weeks before leaving on our vacation), but we enjoyed every minute of it!

We visited Allawah's Hideaway Lodge from 30th December 2007 till 3rd January 2008 and had a great time. The owners, Trish&Pete, have really thought about everything: the lodge is beautifully decorated and furnished, very very clean, nothing missing at all. It really felt like home away from home. Outside there's a big verandah with hammock and spa and a wonderful view. Wallaby's visit in the morning during breakfast under your verandah and possums during the night. Everything you need to cook your own breakfast is in your fridge and fresh, warm bread is delivered to your lodge daily.
We could have stayed for weeks...

Our first time was really in Jan 2001 after finding Allawah on the web and we spent 3 weeks with the Jones while we looked for a home in the area. We found it and was back again for 2 more weeks Aug 2001 for the closing. Our last stay at Allawah was Mar 2007. It was to be our last week of our 5 years of living in Australia.
Every Lodge is like a little palace each with it's own ambience. Moonlight was our first 2 stays and Hideaway our last and most incredible.
We use to say to Trish & Pete, we could stay here forever, why did we buy a home. "Allawah becomes your home". We have travelled the World and have never found a place that provides everything you look for, comfort, kindness, quality, peace, luxury and every convience. No matter what your purpose for going there, WHO COULD ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE.
