“Fantastic for families or couples alike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2014

We stayed in the treehouses for four nights in April 2014. The treehouses are just that, a house elevated up among the canopy of the rainforest just as the name suggests. They are very well appointed with washer and dryer, dishwasher and functional kitchen, and a great outside deck with a quality BBQ and outdoor setting. Our kids 8 and 12 adored the place, and loved their bedroom in the loft. A wood burning combustion stove will stave off any chilly nights.
The houses are remote from one another - you're 50 meters away from your neighbor through dense forest - you can't see them and they can't see you. Generally all you'll hear is the sounds of the rainforest day and night.
The wildlife is abundant and friendly, with birds, possums and pademelons all around. The property has a decent amount of walking tracks and a turtle (and apparently platypus) inhabited river which runs along the back of the treehouses.
David the property owner is a friendly source of information on activities and wildlife if you want the info, but will leave you to your devices if you don't want it.
Be prepared to cook your own meals, or BBQ on the deck as you'll be about 10 minutes drive from the nearest town - Malanda, with dining choices really limited to the pub or takeaway.
All in all an excellent experience, a must-do for animal lovers or families with kids, but would work equally as well for a romantic get-away. A good central base too for full or half day activities in the tablelands.

We've spent quite a few vacations in rainforest "eco-resorts" and other such properties. Canopy Rainforest is quite a treat for those who enjoy the rainforest experience mixed with a touch of luxury. The cabin is very nicely appointed and quiet. But the real fun was in the interactions with the rainforest denizens: the cassowary, pademelons, possums and assorted birds were on full display. David was an excellent host and provided us with some excellent referrals for local guides and attractions. The only downsides to the property is the absence of a common area where you can meet other guests and fairly limited wi-fi (available only at the main offices). Otherwise, a superlative experience at a sub-$300 nightly rate.

We stayed at the Canopy Rain forest retreat for three nights as part of our honeymoon, it was beautiful, calm and relaxing. The houses are spacious, clean and fully appointed. David, the owner, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, he had lots of time for my 10 year old daughter and answered all her questions. The pademelon feeding in the evening was wonderful, it was great to see them as they are quite shy and difficult to see usually. The wildlife was amazing and we were surprised by the variety of birds and animals that we managed to see. we would highly recommend staying at the Canopy rain forest treehouses, we will definitely be going back ourselves.

We had stayed here before and so enjoyed it that we came back. If possible, it was even better this time. Although all we saw of Tui the Cassowary were tracks and droppings that may have been all we missed. Greeted in the morning by birds at the feeder, in the evenings by possum at the feeder, and so much to see inbetween. The treehouse was very comfortable with a good kitchen. Being made out of what looks like local woods, the construction is beautiful. There is a waing machine which is very useful in the tropics. David is an engaging host and offered many ideas of places to go and things to do.

We returned to the Treehouses after an 8 year absence. Loved it the first time but wondered if it would be as good as we remembered. It was, and more. The houses themselves are lovely. Basically an a-frame with a loft bedroom, and a full kitchen, bath with jetted tub and master bedroom downstairs. But "downstairs" is one story up in the rainforest trees and features a huge porch with a hammock and table, which is really where you spend your time. Bird food and turtle food is provided and the wild-but-tame birds (king parrots, honeyeaters) will eat out of your hand. Possums visit in the evening and will allow a little petting if you move slowly. Be sure to keep the door closed or you will have roommates. There are lots of walking trails with birds and other animals (including tree kangaroos) to see. The resident cassowary, Tui, was on walkabout when we visited, but he has been around with this year's "chick." The owners, Dave and Sharon, are wildlife rehabilitators and many of their former pets that have been released to the wild will show up for a snack now and then. All in all, a wonderful place, even if you never leave the porch!

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms here.

The service was amazing, and the Bower House we stayed in was amazing. We spent three nights feeding the local wildlife and kicking back and relaxing. The grounds are extensive and are great for bushwalking and feeding the fish and turtles. It is an easy drive to most of the attractions on the Atherton Tablelands.

Room Tip: Bower House was good for up to three couples, otherwise the treehouses look great for less.
