Owner description: Recognised as one of Australia's most unusual attractions, this world class natural history museum gives visitors a very exciting glimpse at what happened millions of years ago beneath our earth's crust. Rene Boissevain is a man with a passion. He has spent a lifetime travelling to every corner of the world to collect crystallised mineral specimens, gemstones, fossils and rocks. He searches only for the best - the most perfect, the most extraordinary, the most valuable, the rarest and the biggest. To house his growing collection of more than 600 individual pieces, Rene has built 250 m2 of tunnels and grottos for you to explore. Visitors are given a helmet and a catalogue to identify the specimens and explore the caves unguided. This virtual cave gives the feeling of finding these natural formations yourself. Carefully positioned and delicately lit, you are free to discover in your own time and encouraged to touch and photograph the crystals. Open your mind and put all expectations aside, this is not your average museum...

A lot of work & imagination has gone into this place. Kids will love it and the prices are great for the jewels & gems on offer. However I was looking for gold not silver.

“Crystal Caves”
Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

Worth a stop, just to see the amazing crystal collection in the store and to appreciate the effort and expense in buying and collecting so many of the very large crystal geodes shown in the underground 'cave'. Some really unusual specimens, with the highlight being the monster amethyst geode from Uruguay - it's gob-smacking!

“What an incredibleShop.”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

When visiting Atherton, do not miss the Crystal Caves. The crystals on sale are fantastic, possibly the largest display of Amethyst. Whilst the items in my opinion are over priced as i have several pieces myself, the shop displays are amazing, This is not just a crystal shop, there is a man made cave at the rear of the shop which also travels under the shop as well.Whilst at first you may think the entry price is a little high, just remember the cost to collect the display items from around the world. There has to be the largest Amethyst in the world plus many other beautiful items. Do not miss this display.

My family visited the Caves and found it to be breath taking. Although not real the display made up for it. My youngest son cracked a Geode and it has not left his side since. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Very friendly and helpful staff.
