Description: Steam is a funky modern Asian eatery that offers tasty food, friendly service and a picturesque setting opposite the beach in Rye. Our style is based around share plates and interactive dining so you can either choose a little or a lot and enjoy a range of flavors from our extensive menu. Our influences range from Japanese, Chinese, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia and we're not afraid of a bit of spice! Our live oyster tank is a feature of the restaurant, highlighting our focus on fresh seafood and produce. We offer selections for most dietary needs and are available for group booking and functions upon request.

This place is really cool, the design is funky and modern and the buzz is great as its so busy. The fresh oyster tank is a definite winner, couldn't not start with half a dozen! We then shared some sashimi and tasting plates for the table. I had the beef curry which was really tasty, my partner had the Balinese wrapped fish which was so fresh. Everything was really fresh and flavoursome - lots of different fragrants and aromatics, and some really different foods to try. Best restaurant on the peninsula by a mile. Will become our new regular spot each time we're down.

Been here a few times with my partner and it never ceases to amaze me how incredible it is. The food is always evolving and never disappoints. The chef brings a level of quality and sophistication that is only seen in Melbourne. They have a great sake selection and a good tight winelist. Can't recomend this place enough, the staff work well together and have fun. Love it guys keep it up! Will be back

This seems to be a blend of mostly eastern style food, with just a touch of western thrown in for good measure..decor was pleasant and welcoming, as were the staff. Tables were not too close together, so conversation flowed freely. Menu was first class and sharing plates were no problem. Food was outstanding and wine selection, including by the glass, was very good indeed. A few minor improvements might be worth considering:
Firstly, the music was a touch too loud and the "doof doof" style was hardly appropriate to the client demographic.
Secondly, desserts, as excellent as they were, took forever to arrive.
Finally, coffee was not available in any form. This was a very big negative, eastern influence notwithstanding.
In summary, mostly excellent, but unless the coffee problem is solved, we
probably won't go again.

This place has the best fresh food you will get anywhere in the peninsular. Yes you may wait a little if its during the holidays or weekend but the food is all worth it. To get fresh food the kitchen needs to prepare it and that takes time, if you want pre cooked food then go somewhere else this place is fantastic and the kitchen takes pride in their food. We eat here almost twice a month and food is always great and very consistent. I also believe the pricing is spot on for the quality.

my review is that if you understood the hours and crap salary that we get paid you would understand why you get crap service. the way you are spoken to by management other staff and patrons. totally understand 90% of people who work in hospitality should not be there. it is not their career so they don't give a crap its just a way to get extra cash or they cant find anything else.
its is one of the worst industries in the world trust me. honestly you don't like a place tell the management or owner why your not coming back. and if you ever get the chance to stick up for a tormented staff member step in and tell the owner/ manager he is not god so get over himself, sit down have a coke and a smile.
