Charles and his wife go the extra 5 miles to ensure that their guests are cosseted and well looked after. Breakfast is outstanding with masses of fresh fruit and a cooked banquet enough to last until dinner - and we were playing golf and working up an appetite ! The accommodation is first class and truly spotless. Newspapers are available every day and Charles provides a daily weather forecast whic always seems to be right! He has a wealth of knowledge about local restaurants and is always pleased to help in planning one's time. A real gem.

Room Tip: The room at the front of the house on the right as one enters seemed to have the most space.

My husband and I stayed in the Bahamas Suite at Plantation House for three nights in early October for a "mini-moon". We had a lovely time and were quite pleased with the accommodation. Here's the run-down:

PRO'S:
- Charles is a lovely gentleman and a great cook! He cooked a wonderful beef and burgundy pie for our dinner one evening (as per a special request for our booking), and excellent breakfasts all three mornings. My favourite was the spanish eggs!
- The room was incredibly clean and well stocked with extra pillows, blankets and linens. We were also able to get more towels when required.
- The spa bath in our room was heavenly! We didn't get a chance to try the outdoor spa - next time!
- The bed was quite comfortable.
- The TV has Foxtel and there's a very large selection of good DVD's available for the guests to use during their stay. Excellent for those days or evenings you just want to stay in and do nothing.
- The location of the hotel is just far enough away from the main road to be incredibly quiet, but close enough so you could easily walk to various cafes and restaurants if you wanted to - not to mention the beach. It is also a short drive to Peninsula Hot Springs, which you can get bathing passes for along with your booking if requested.

There's really only one "con" I can think of: The toilet in the Bahamas suite is right next to the heater. Not really a con per say, but if you're a larger person this could be a bit uncomfortable. ;)

Overall, we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend Plantation House to anyone that wants a quiet and comfortable stay on the Mornington Peninsula.

I am always a little wary of B & Bs, you can feel like you are encroaching on someones home, and they are often decorated with lace and teddy bears (a good friend of mine once gave me the good tip - if you see a Teddy Bear -run!),
Not at Plantation House,
The rooms are stylish, quality bedding and decorations, and extremely clean and well maintained.
Met by the delightful and helpful owner Charles, my husband and I were lucky to be the only guests it being a Mon/ Tues night.
Charles was really helpful, made fantastic breakfasts (from a varied menu), and was around when you needed him to be.
The outside space with BBQ and Jacuzzi would be fantastic in summer - especially if you had a group of 3 couples traveling together and had all 3 rooms.
Just a minute from lovely beach walks, and everything in the Peninsula is super close, no where is more than 30 mins drive.

Perfect weekend getaway. The rooms are clean, warm and thoughtful. Lorraine and Charles are the perfect hosts and cook a cracking breakfast. Would recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet romantic getaway to relax and unwind. Close to the hot springs and restaurants etc if you are wanting to venture out. A lovely addition was Steggles the cat.

We stayed at Plantation House at Whitecliffs/Rye for 4 nights 20th - 24th February 2012. This was beyond doubt the best B & B we have ever stayed in and that includes ones in S. Africa and New Zealand. At the moment there are 3 ensuite rooms, although I understand another may be added soon. These three guest rooms are situated in a side wing of the main house and entry is by a separate front door from the main house. There is a spacious guest lounge/dining room which opens out onto a patio area with outdoor furnitre and a large bbq/outdoor kitchen and also a spa bath. There is also a laundry room with washing machine & tumble dryer for guests to use. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits etc. are always set out for guest to help themselves as is sherry and port for that evening tipple! There is also a huge supply of books & DVDs for guests to use. We stayed in the "Georgia" Room which is possibly the smallest but had everything we could need - lots of fluffy white towels, bath robes, toiletries, hairdryer, iron & ironing board & TV/DVD. We had a look at the two other guest rooms and they also look lovely. One (New Havana) even has a separate lounge area and would be perfect for longer stays.
Charles is the perfect host - not at all intrusive but a great fund of useful information when asked. (We did not get to meet Lorraine as she was away visting family during our stay). Breakfasts were huge and delicious and cooked to order by Charles (you won't need lunch!)
The small town of Sorrento is around 8 km away and a very easy drive. This is a nice little place to wander around, with some stylish shops and a selection of cafes/restaurants. You can also get the ferry from here over to Queenscliff which is a nice trip.
In Rye itself we found the cafes/restaurants slightly disappointing - although we did enjoy the "Steam" restaurant, but the advantage of staying in Whitecliffs/Rye is that it is more centrally located in the middle of the Mornington Peninsula than Sorrento which is at the end, and thus easier to get around - there are lots of lovely walks and places to visit nearby.
We so enjoyed our stay at Plantation House , the attention to detail, service, comfort - there was nothing I could fault - and I can be very picky!! If we visit the Mornington Peninsula again on our next trip to Australia, we will certainly be staying here again.
Thank you Charles for a great 4 days.

My husband and I have just spent 12 days travelling from Sydney to Melbourne staying at B&B on the way. The last place to visit was The Mornington Peninsula, which had I known how fantastic the area was I would have come here for the whole holiday. Charles and Lorraine are the best hosts I've come across, they are friendly without being overbearing and intrusive. The house is so well organised that you actually feel like your in your own home with all the added luxury comforts. The most difficult part of your stay is choosing what to have for breakfast, Charles is a "Master" in the kitchen whipping up delights such as French toast with fresh berries to Asparagus with eggs. We stayed two nights and this was not enough to enjoy the house or the area. The B&B is just a short 3minute walk to the beach and shops, everything you need is in the local area, but if you wanted to explore then a must is to go to Sorrento for the "Best Vanilla Slice" in the world, one between two people is more than enough as they are huge. You will not be disappointed with your stay at Plantation House, infact it might inspire you to run a B&B yourself. Can't wait to go back

Room Tip: All the rooms were fitted out with very high quality linen, towels and services. We stayed in Georgi...
