“Surprisingly good food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

While staying in a nearby guesthouse, we visited the Bundanoon Hotel for drinks and dinner. The food was very good, although I would have liked to see a bit more variety in the entree department. We had some very tasty crumbed lamb cutlets for an entree (served with a surprisingly generous rocket salad) and my main course steak was perfectly cooked. The dessert menu looked fairly ordinary except for the inclusion of a quince pie, which I had to try. It was a massive slice which I couldn't finish, with a lovely pastry and interesting filling.

The hotel is old and could certainly use a bit of TLC, but we found the locals very welcoming and stayed to have a few drinks in the main bar. If you overlook the dingy paintwork it's a fun place to spend a few hours on a Saturday evening.

where to start? We were invited to a reunion & the organiser offered this hotel. Well it was lovely to catch up to old friends, but this hotel that was built in 1922. & little has changed. We were charged $65 per person for a room with en suite. no tv, no clock, no radio. peeling paint. look out the window thru scaffolding that had the appearance that it had been in situ for some time. I'm 196cm tall & i touched the head & the bottom of the bed. Yes, it was clean still no bar fridge one chair. door had a button as security, no chain. the bathroom is so small I had to towel down half in the shower recess & half in the room. pathetic. our dinner was served cold, on a bun that wasn't toasted or buttered another couple waited so long for their chicken, they must have chased it down then prepared it then cooked it. they run out of one type of dessert. no attempt to offer tea or coffee. the licencee is obessed with cost cutting. breakfast is on for one hour. in the bar the barmaid was lost as to how to operate the touch screen on the cash register, so we had to wait/wait. my wifes lemon, lime & bitters, had so much bitters it seemd to have half the angustura tree production. $160 for one night in this hotel is a disgrace inc breakfast for 2. it's a shame because the hotel is well sited, although you do get rail noise, as the hotel is only about 30 metres from the main rail line sydney to melbourne & canberra. also the southern highlands is a lovely area. for touring & walking in the national parks.

Room Tip: Can't offer any. there are cheaper rooms but you have to walk down the corridor to the facilitie...

Our group of 33 enjoyed our stay at this country hotel. It was our base for three nights while we discovered the Southern Highlands experience. It was great to come home to the cosy warmth and open fire, good food and warm comfy beds. We loved the old style ambience of guest house days, and the attentive staff. I'd call it a 4 star Country Pub !

This is a review of the lunch only, not the accommodation which we did not use. We had travelled from Sydney for the day as my husband had a work commitment nearby. We had driven past the hotel earlier and I said it looked like a place to try for lunch. It had that old world character and the sense that it might be one of those old fashioned country pubs where you get a pleasant meal of pub proportions (ie plentiful) at pub prices (ie affordable). That's pretty much how I would describe it. Cordon bleu it is not, but my husband enjoyed his beef in red wine pie, which had a hearty home-made flavour, even if the pastry on top did not. I wasn't that hungry and thought I would just have a side of onion rings. Should have read my introduction - yes it was a bucketload of them (well a whole plateful, I was just expecting half a dozen or so). The best part was that altough we were warned that it could take 20-30 minutes (there were a number of orders in front of ours and given the pie would need time to cook?) we were pleasantly surprised when our meal came out much earlier. I also spotted some "hamburgers with the lot" going past and they looked pretty full-on too. The only other comment I have is that there are toilets down the hall from the dining room and if you use them, you probably should close the window first which is awkwardly placed at hip-height, allowing a good view to anyone standing outside in the carpark.

We (5 couples) stayed at this hotel the weekend of 22/02/2013 for a wedding close by on Saturday. We all arrived Friday afternoon and met at the bar for drinks then relocated to the lounge area, we were made extremely welcome by all the staff. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The hotel was built in 1922 and has been renovated in the past, it is not modern but facilities are good. There is a lovely antiquated ambience to the hotel, there were 2 comfortable lounge areas which as a large group suited us. We all dined in the restaurant Friday night and for breakfast 2 mornings, the food was excellent and our waitress was too. We would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a casual night stopover in the area.
