We just spent our 15th visit at Spyglass last month. We can't get enough of the place.....what's particularly nice is the location, right on a cliff edge overlooking the ocean. Peaceful? Yes indeed. Sit on your balcony or patio and watch pelicans fly by in formation. Deer frequent the yard in the late afternoon, and often you can catch a glimpse of the resident red fox. Never mind hustle and bustle or waiting in line at restaurants.....leave all that at home. There are barbecues provided, and the suites are well equipped with full kitchens and all necessary crockery, cookware and utensils. We feel a huge sense of relaxation the minute we step in the door, and are always saddened at how fast our weekend goes by. Last visit, the tide pools were amazing. The loop around the town is about 2.5 miles, just long enough for a morning walk. And of course, there are the hosts/owners, Richard and Margaret. They're half the reason we go. And go again we shall. Counting the days till visit #16.

Room Tip: Top floor for longer views, bottom floor for closer to nature experience.

We drove up the California coast for 2 weeks during Christmas. After reading the reviews, we decided to give this little out-of-the-way gem a try. The host's were gracious and accommodating. The suite was everything we hoped for. Bring your own food as there are not any grocery stores or restaurants. The host has a gas grill and the kitchen is fully stocked with cooking implements. The hot tub in the living room is roomy and the view amazing. Deer appeared shorty after dusk and grazed off the patio. Take a short 2 block walk in one direction to the seal rock or the other direction takes you to Black Beach. This is the beginning of the Lost Coast. We were able to watch whales migrate south from our room. We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: There are only 4 rooms, all with perfect views

We really liked our stay here. The owners are nice and accommodating. The view is spectacular, and the beaches around there are great for whale and seal watching. The full kitchen was also great, especially since there were no open restaurants when we stayed there.

Our family is from Tracy, CA. For Easter/Spring break of the kids and our 15th wedding anniversary, we decided to drive up north to this marvelous place. If you want some place relaxing and re-energizing, where it is not crowded, has very friendly people who still know how to wave and say hi face-to-face, even to foreign visitors like us; where nature is front and center so children can actually appreciate clean air, observe wildlife like deer, seal, all sorts of birds, and see a variety of colorful plants and flowers set up against a lush green fresh backdrop; where you'll feel refreshed even when "unplugged"----Shelter Cove is the place to visit. The most accommodating people own this cozy, clean and most welcoming place called SPYGLASS INN. We felt like we belonged there during our stay. Richard and Margaret both seem like the parents/grandparents that we miss so much. Next time we visit (hopefully without the kids), we'll most definitely give that very inviting Jacuzzi inside our room a try!

Room Tip: All rooms have an excellent view of the Pacific Ocean!

My husband and I had planned on driving from BC Canada down the Oregon coast down to San Francisco. Our stay at the Spyglass in was by far the highlight of our trip. Richard and Margaret were the perfect hosts. The room was excellent and the view is spectacular. We found ourselves extremely relaxed (also very sad to leave) by the end of our stay and looking forward to the next time!
