“Beautiful Location, better Tapas”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

Lovely place to "Tapear" . You order exquisite, very well priced and abundant taste portions of different dishes. Nice wine and liquor selection. Start a conversation order a round of tapas and some drinks and repeat. You will spend a nice time tasting lots off different plates and nice drinks. All sorrounded by great people. After that you can have a stroll down Parque Santo Domingo with impressive views of Porta Coeli. Enjoy San Germán.

“A Little Taste of Spain in San German”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We love this place and make coming here an annual ritual. The high ceilings, flamenco music in the background, tiled floor, and bull fighting posters make you feel as if you've been transported to Madrid. The owners, a well-seasoned couple, oversee the action from their table just outside the door to the kitchen with a benevolent, but watchful eye.

The food is decent (except for the garlic shrimp, which is exceptional) and the service more earnest than polished. In six years of coming here we have not noticed a single menu change. Even the prices have remained the same.

The hard-nosed restaurant critic in me says that Tapas deserves no more than 3 stars, but the diner who enjoys a good meal in a unique setting, provided by nice people says give it 5. Rather than compromise, today the diner wins.

“Fantastic food - recommend ordering in waves”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Upon the recommendation of co-workers who live around San German, myself and a fellow business traveler went here in November 2012. We went in exactly at opening time, actually waiting outside until they opened as we got there too early. From the recommendations on here, we took the advice of ordering a lot at once. While that strategy works, I'd recommend instead to order items in waves - say 2-4 items at once. As those arrive, order another set. Tapas means "appetizers" in spanish, and that's what this is - a whole meal of them. I found it delicious as we had such a variety of items. While I don't drink, my fellow diner had the sangria and said it was fantastic.

The waiter we had was very english challenged, so I am glad I did not let him go alone as my friend does not speak a word of spanish. He was able to describe each dish I had a question on, although they are pretty much "what it says on the tin" types, which I then translated. The final bill was much lower than I expected for the quantity of food we had. The atmosphere was somewhat strange, as it seemed like they were going for an old movie meets typical spanish restaurant deco. It didn't detract from the food however, and other than the language problem (and you should speak the language of a county you're visiting anyway), it was a great dinner.

“Neighborhood welcoming attitude”
Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

We visit Tapas Cafe 3 to 4 times a year. It is a gastronomically unpretentious place with a consistent and traditional Spanish atmosphere. The menu is nothing remarkable but options offered are sufficiently varied, generous and hearty. While at Tapas, we always enjoy the presence of Don Edwin in the background (a now retired physician from San German) and his wife (a native from Spain) constantly showing a warm smile. They treat their wines well (we typically drink their house wine), storing and serving them at good temperature. And to us, that is a factor of satisfaction. Their Serrano Ham and Manchego cheese combination is a good choice, and we tried a sardines pate that surprised us. For us, Tapas represents a simple and relaxed place with a small town flavor that allows for a nice conversation and a pleasant warm familiarity, an experience we would nostalgically miss if in the future the place ceases to exist. Fortunately, we will have Tapas for long since they will soon inaugurate a a four rooms inn at the top floor, an addition sure to add a nice detail to their restaurant.

“Very good food and prices!”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

The food is delicious and tasty. The service is good (should improve the waiting time for the courses) and the prices were very affordable. The square (plaza) in front of the restaurant is lovely and the city is so charming that you'll fall in love with it. Very tranquil and quiet place to visit and explore.
