we got an amazing deal on laterooms.co.uk for this hotel at 99 pounds a night and our room- willow- on the new side of the hotel was really nice, although i would personally recommend asking for a room in the old side of the hotel, like the room marlborough- which we also saw, as the old side has a lot of character and is really rustic.. cant believe only 4 star.. the staff were exceptional, we ate our dinner in the library (full of centuries old interesting books) just the two of us and played scrabble they looked after us really well.. i am normally very fussy so to say this is a great hotel, really i cant understand how anyone can disagree (unless they personally had some sort of bad experience) as the general hotel quality is superb

Unlike many of the other correspondents we had a truly disappointing stay at Alexander House. Price-wise Alexander House pitches itself in the top league not only in terms of room rates but food and wine. Our rooms were £300 (2 adults 1 3 year old) and £220 (2 adults) for one night. Starters in the Alexander’s Restaurant averaged £10-12 Main courses up £25-30. In itself this isn't a problem but for these rates, which compare with many of the best hotels and restaurants, the guest must feel service and value which we sadly did not. Firstly our bookings at the Utopia Spa were written down in the wrong name and so could not be found. This was despite visiting the hotel 2 weeks prior to our stay and booking them in person. Rather than being in Alexander’s Restaurant we were moved into a small function room. Alexander’s itself have been booked for a private function, though we were not told this in advance. Worst of all having been dumped in the Churchill function room at 8.20pm our starters did not arrive until 9.45pm. The waiter service was unattentive and frankly we went from very calm to very annoyed. The food when it did arrive was fair but nonetheless extremely overpriced. Michelin star rates but gastropub quality. This really overshadowed a Christmas getaway with our friends. The common areas such as the Lounge and Library were taken over by functions during the some of the daytime and although you could still sit in both the only way to receive service for drinks was to leave and ask the receptionist to arrange them. Our overall impression is that Alexander House is far more interested in the revenue from functions than anything else. It was a truly disappointing stay.

Thank you for taking the time to register your review on Trip Advisor.

May i firstly express my disapointment that your stay did not reflect our usual high standards of care and hospitality.

Alexander House has two award wining restaurants and when one is taken for a private event we do offer guests the other. On the day in question some guests expressed their wish to dine in our Churchill Suite from the Alexander's menu and not dine in Reflections. This was duly arranged. I was surprised to note the delays in service as this was not brought to any of my managers attention.
Alexander House remains the perfect venue for both exclusive parties and private guests as with two restaurants and 3 lounges we are suited to accommodate all of our guests wishes.

Thank you again for your review and i can assure you the team are fully aware of your impression of Alexander House Hotel

Loved it loved it loved it! From the moment we arrived we knew we had made the right choice with Alexander House. We wanted to treat ourselves for our first wedding anniversary and what a way to do it. The staff were outstanding, polite, attentive and un-intrusive. Although there were some 'unsavoury, impolite guests' who disturbed our sleep, the management did everything to look after us and make sure it didn't ruin our stay. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The relaxed ethos mixed with style and luxury was the perfect balance. It being a spa hotel meant you could wander through the foyer in your robes on route to the spa without feeling inhibited. We stayed in the Dorchester suite, it was huge! We had a corridor to our en suite and the bed is the comfiest I have slept in. The power shower was amazing and the water pressure notably strong, which is often unusual for hotels! My only criticsm would be the view from the Dorchester room was non existent, but this did not matter to us. And the bathroom is big enough to benefit from a roll top bath, instead of the small bathtub it has. Some parts of the wallpaper were a bit ‘tired’ but overall the room was gorgeous, we wanted to be in the old part of the house, rather than the new contempory part, to try and get a bit of the history and character from this wonderful old house. The extension has been done sympathetically to the age of the building and the mix of old and new, in our opinion works very well. We ate in the Brasserie which was lovely and the bar staff were helpful and attentive. Breakfast was plentiful and catered for all tastes. We went for a walk and explored the grounds and can’t wait to come back. We had a few spa treatments which were very good and the pool areas and changing facilities were kept clean and maintained. High praise to the staff and the management of this hotel, if we weren’t married already we would have loved to have got married at Alexander House. We will back, I am certain of it!

We had a brilliant stay at the Alexander House just for one night en route to a holiday in the Carribean. It really got our holiday off to a good start - what a difference to the standard Gatwick Airport hotels. The Alexander House and its sister hotel, Langshott Manor, are in a class of their own. The room was lovely, the food was excellent and the service was friendly and attentive without being "over the top". The weather was absolutely appalling whilst we were there and so we were not able to explore the grounds (which looked wonderful) but we made full use of the spa facilities - even sitting in the hot tub in the garden whilst the rain pounded down all around us. I would really recommend the Alexander House - and will be!!

Superb hotel in an amazing setting were you do not have to lift a finger.

Fiancee and I were looking for a few days of pampering and we got more than just that. Arrived to a tour of the hotel and then a tour of our room. Concierge was terrific and nothing was ever a problem. Reception were always on call and incredibaly helpful.

The brasserie food was excellent and staff there were on top of everything, breakfast as well was lovely.

The spa was perfect as well from the steam room all the way to the outdoor hot tub. Treatments were great and needed.

The setting along with the way all are involved and ever helpful and friendly made it a perfect break away.
