My husband and I used to stay at this hotel often but had a bad experience several years ago and haven't been back since.
We decided to give it another go and we couldn't have been happier, really nice room, updated bathroom and really clean,
Dinner was fabulous! Plentiful, good variety and good quality food, staff were really friendly.
Breakfast was really good, really good choice and all cooked fresh.
We will definatley stay again.

Visited yesterday for lunch ... normally we go in a large family party for Christmas lunch, so just 5 of us yesterday for a normal lunch was a departure. The food and service as always was impressive. The range of food available, the quality of it all, and the friendly, helpful staff combine with reasonable prices to make this one of my top tips if you ever get the chance to visit. If only we lived closer :(...

We were attracted by the hotel's Leisure Break deal and paid £78 for dinner, bed and breakfast which was incredible value. The hotel itself is in the lovely village of Bramber, not far from Brighton, with plenty of walks nearby as well as a ruined castle. One of the four poster bedded rooms was available which had the advantage of a large bathroom with jacuzzi. The bed was very comfortable and although the room was at the front of the hotel, we were not disturbed by traffic. The wood panelled dining room provided a lovely atmosphere for our evening meal, which we chose from the Carvery. We were spoiled for choice and thoroughly enjoyed our three course meal. The only extra was a bottle of wine, which was quite expensive at £16.50 for house wine, but given the price we paid for the total stay, we forgave them for this! There was also plenty of choice for breakfast. We found most of the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We would certainly recommend looking at the hotel's website for leisure break deals.

This time my wife and I came with our friends and booked 1 night bed & breakfast and evening meal. Like us they were so impressed with everything, the food was plentiful, well cooked and presented and the staff are very friendly. I would be so bold as to say the standard room was better than the superior room (which we had last time and I thought it only afforded 4 rating). Very quiet, clean room. Great place, 4 of us can't wait to return again.

Stayed in November 2011, and returned in 2012. Standards have been maintained. We were allocated the same room as before - loved the underfloor heating in the bathroom! Breakfast still good, although coffee poor. Ate at the Carvery one night - that was enough. Decent food, but service a bit slapdash. As others have noted, expensive for a carvery. I completed a Best Western online survey, and was agreeably surprised to have my points answered by e-mail. Will probably visit again.

I have just enjoyed yet another wonderful buffet lunch at the Tollgate in Bramber and I have to say that if it is possible, it was even better than on my previous visits. I belong to a Sunday lunch club in Brighton and we had our Christmas lunch at the Tollgate yesterday (09 Dec 2012). There were 20 people in our group and the experience was better than ever. The buffet was marvelllous with a great selection of starters and the carvery was top rate as were the desserts. The service is fantastic to the point where they even take your hot plate to your table after the carvery has been served! The whole experience was perfect and we all had a great day out. I recommend this to anyone who like me (I don't really like buffet dining) who is wary-do yourself a favour and enjoy this little gem of a place-well worth the trip out there.

Room Tip: I haven't stayed at the hotel but the restaurant is wonderful try it!

Although this establishment is also a very good hotel, it is best know locally as 'The Carvery'.
It is situated in the village of Bramber opposite the medieval castle of the same name.
The inside is spacious but still has a very intimate atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful and deliver your meal to your table when you have made your choice from the food display. Not only is there always a choice of at least 3 roasts, as the Main dish, but numerous other delicious alternatives. A vast array of starters and sweets are available.
Each course is a fixed price of around £6, so one can select to have only one course if so desired.
Highly recommended for both lunch and dinner.
