The Hind Hotel
Ranked #3 of 4 Hotels in Wellingborough
Reviewed October 5, 2008

I stayed at the Hind Hotel for one night and i wish i had slept in my car for that night. The lady at reception, was ok but it was down hill from there. The car park was full and had to park in an off street parking, fairly close but it wasn't ideal as it was down an unlight street, etc. The room was not good, stank of stale smoke, with mildew in several places and the TVdidn't work. The floors everywhere made a noise and you could hear people walking through the corridor which made sleeping difficult.

I also ate in the resturaunt which was extremely poor, i order the sirloin steak but ended up with frying steak and uncooked mushrooms. There is a Mc Donalds across the road which i would suggest using if you want a quick meal. I also had breakfast in the hotel and as expected, rubbish. They got the order wrong, i only asked for a full english! i couldn't wait leave. i could go on for hours, dont bother going there.

We stayed in this hotel at the end of October. On arrival, we were directed to a very shabby room. There room was very dusty and dirty. The bathroom in particular, was covered in mildew. To make matters worse, our heating went off around 8pm on the first evening of our stay. When I enquired at reception I was told that the heating could not be turned on as it was on a timer. Instead, I was offered a small and ineffective electric heater. The following morning I complained at reception that I had had no heating for 15 hours. The manageress said that she would address the issue. By the second evening of my stay, my heating still had not been turned on. When I enquired at reception I was informed that the heating was broken and that there was no prospect of it being repaired. I was offered several other alternative rooms, none of which had any heating! When I checked out, the staff attempted to charge me full price. When I complained, they offered me a 20% discount (I had heating for 6 hours of a 48 hour stay!!). Eventually, I accepted a 50% discount. An appalling lack of customer service!

Probably the worse hotel I've ever stayed in. Their staff were extremely rude, it took almost 30 minutes to check in and the same to check out. Also if you book with them directly it is much more expensive than booking with an agency online. I asked them if they could match the price of the agency online and they told me that if I didn't like the price I could go somewhere else. Unbelievable! The place felt cold and damp, the rooms were dirty, I found hairs and nailtips in the bathroom and there were not enough blankets (two beds in the room but just one blanket).

The remote control of the television wasn't working properly I called reception and after rining for almost 15 minutes someone picked it up and said there was nothing they could do because they didn't have any more batteries, (no even offering to go and get some more). The beds were squeaquy, and everytime my mother turned round in her bed during the night, I would wake up because the noise was so loud.

The rooms were poorly lit, making it impossible to read and the deco was horrible, the room looked as if it had been furnished with pretentious flat packed furniture.

What a shame this hotel is so tatty and shabby. Must have been lovely place 100 years ago - not that that is much consolation to those of us who wish to stay there today. Probably take 1 mill to sort out all its problems. Comfortable atmosphere. Staff helpful and pleasant.

Stayed for a couple of nights in October 2006, lured by the website and from having lived in Wellingborough many years ago. Found it horribly faded. Agree with many of the comments from the review in Spanish on the site. The quality of attention from staff was poor, although this could almost certainly be turned around by training and managment leadership. The main personal problem for us was some other guests - a couple over from Dubai, the fella strutting around like he owned the place, the blithering idiot - but I guess the hotel can't help that! But I wouldn't return without knowing that some serious thought and energy had gone into the hotel raising it's game.

I know what you’re thinking: you’ve seen the Hind’s website, thought ‘that looks okay’ and are just checking reviews to see if it’s worth staying there. Well let me help you: it isn’t. I stayed in a single en-suite paying £60-odd for a hot, noisy room above the kitchen (the staff down there like to listen to the radio – very loudly). Clean functional bathroom – no complaints there – but the furniture was dated and tatty. The serving staff at breakfast seemed unhappy at being woken up. I don’t think they’re used to customers: the restaurant was all but empty in the evenings and put me off dining there. Food was served in the bar, if you don’t mind the smokey atmosphere, but as the hotel is right in the town centre, there are plenty of places to eat. A note of caution though: I was warned by several people to be careful at night if you’re on your own in the town centre.
