“An Absolute hidden treasure”
Reviewed June 24, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

On our arrival we were met by the owner Catherine who was extremely gracious and welcoming, after showing us around the layout of the cottage we settled into what was a beautifully furnished a spotlessly clean cottage. In the kitchen was a welcome pack which contained chutneys and jams and chocolates and a freshly baked home made loaf, an absolutely wonderful touch.
Our weekend away was to be a relaxing one and that was exactly how it went Catherine was attentive to our needs and we were left to enjoy the hot tub and surrounding gardens at our leisure. The area is a great place to explore all of Yorkshires beauty and this little hidden treasure is a superb place to kick back and relax after your days out, or with the home cinema, hot tub, barbeque and lovely garden area to even just stay in.
The fact that the cottages are in a private and securely gated area makes it ideal for all types of family from adults to even small children.
I am normally very reluctant to give an excellent rating as I believe even the smallest details have to be of high standard, I have however no problem at all in giving either the cottage or the owners this rating.
Thank you again for a wonderful weekend, we will of course have no hesitation in booking again.

“Wow, what a find! For something special look no further than Farriers Cottage - a fabulous luxury retreat!”
Reviewed June 7, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

I have very high expectations and Farriers Cottage certainly ticked all the boxes, exceeded them and beyond!

The location is fantastic, only a few miles from the quaint market town of Thirsk, in the peaceful hamlet of Balk. You enter the grounds through electric gates which swing open and lead onto the driveway with views of the beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding Farriers Cottage and neighbouring Blacksmiths Cottage.

We were met with a very warm welcome from the lovely Catherine, who led us through the sun trap courtyard, with its manicured lawns and hanging baskets teaming with beautiful blooms, into our home for the weekend – Wow! Simply beautiful!

As soon as you arrive you are amazed at the quality, attention to detail and luxury you find yourself surrounded in both inside and out. Catherine and Dave really have thought of everything and to top it off the wonderful welcome hamper (including warm home-made bread, muffins and chocolates, cheese and a bottle of fizz) was a lovely thoughtful touch and started our break off in style!!

All the rooms have such incredible detailing and beautiful exposed beams ...

A bright sunny kitchen, equipped with luxury touches and everything you could imagine and more!

Gorgeous bathroom with fabulous contemporary shower, luxury roll top bath and complimentary spa toiletries too!

Bedrooms were beautiful decorated in tranquil themes, fresh flowers, high quality mattresses and bed linen that, combined with the peaceful setting provided the best night’s sleep we’ve had in a loooong time and gently waking up to birdsong was wonderful!

Lounge area was very cosy with a fabulous 3D TV home cinema system, a selection of magazines, comfy Sofas, cushions and cosy blankets provided – perfect for snuggly movie nights in!

Outside, a fabulous Hot tub and use of thick towels and super soft dressing gowns provide a luxury spa feel. Wonderfully relaxing, we wiled away many an hour in the hot tub, sipping fizz both in the June sunshine during the day and by starlight in the evening.

You really do find it difficult to leave the cottage once you are there! We did manage tear ourselves away, albeit it very briefly, for a short trip out around the local area. Fabulous views from Sutton Bank, Helmsley’s pretty marketplace, local shops (Delicious meat and cheese at Thomas the Baker’s - ‘Stinky Ea’path’ was scrummy with Catherine's caramelised onion chutney!), lots of lovely cafes and tea shops; lovely walks around picturesque Rievaulx Abbey ruins; pretty villages around every corner, lots to see and do … but the luxury and tranquillity on offer at Farriers cottage was like a magnet drawing us back … so our trip out into the surrounding area was very short-lived and we were soon back in the hot tub relaxing with a glass of fizz or two!!

After 3 days of restful bliss our short break drew to a close and we left Farriers cottage feeling refreshed and revived … we loved it so much that we booked a second visit whilst saying our farewells to Catherine and Dave, and can’t wait to return!

Finally we would just like to add no review could ever tell you just how wonderful this cottage is - it's something that should be experienced.

There is nothing more you could want or need. No stone has been left unturned and it is abundantly clear Catherine and Dave have devoted such hard work, flair and time to their luxury holiday Cottages. Warm and thoughtful hosts, friendly and on hand to help if needed but never intrusive - nothing was too much trouble - simply wonderful! Thank you for sharing your little piece of Yorkshire Heaven with us - by a mile your cottage delivers on everything that is promised and more. Loved it!

See you again soon, Lisa and Kevin
