Going to the Ritz is like stepping back in time. I love it. Independently owned and run by volunteers i salute this local initiative. Sitting in the balcony (if you can find a space) is special fun.
Prices are good and they even do orange wednesdays.
Although the films are not the most recent releases it is good not to have to travel miles and use petrol to get there.

This is an interesting cinema and visiting it is an experience in itself - sit upstairs if you want a comfy seat!

“A bit of a hidden gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

My OH & I finally got to visit our local cinema in October - we've lived in Thirsk for more than 4 years and on the recommendation of a friend finally got around to it. What a lovely suprise we got - the cinema is entirely volunteer run, therefore very friendly as the people running it are there because they want to be! Also the price was amazing - a fiver ! You can;t do much with a fiver these days! So having purchased our bag of sweets and been advised where the ice creams were, we went upstairs to the first floor. (I was given a tip-off - go upstairs the seats are more comfortable). Dont know how true this is - but I can say the seats were very comfortable, viewing was great and as the programme neared the cinema filled up with a very polite and considerate crowd - who didn't chat through the main film. Apparently The Ritz has recently undergone a digital conversion, so the equipment there is state of the art. Great night out for a tenner for two - and at the end of our street - can't believe it!

“Well Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

Run entirely by volunteers at only £5 a film this represented excellent value for money. The place had obviously been refurbished recently and was clean and tidy. Large seats, a good sized screen and plenty of leg room, the only downside was that being fairly bereft of cinema goers it was pretty cold and I sat with my coat on for the entire film...
