Stayed for the bank holiday Sunday and what a brill night away. Staff brilliant, food really good and the whole experience was just classier that the run of the mill stays.
On arrival the check in was 1st class and the room was ready even though we were early. We were informed of the use of the large and free car park then shown the room.

The room was good, bathroom excellent and the little touches of quality gel, soap etc was nice.

Located right in the center of thirsk all needs were on the doorstep.

Had a good day around Thirsk and decided to eat in the hotel - Great choice.

Food, service and atmosphere excellent and with a touch of class and attention to the customer needs.

Breakfast was very good and the service again was first class.

Would stay again and recommend to family and friends.

Room Tip: Stayed in the main hotel rather than the annex which was next to the car park which could be a littl...

Stayed at the Golden Fleece hotel for two nights. The purpose of the trip being the races. Couldn't of asked for more. The room was very clean and comfortable and staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast was really good and the crowning glory is that the race course is less than a ten minute walk away. Lovely hotel would recommend to anybody. We wll be definetly be staying again.

It was our first visit to Yorkshire and we could not have wished for a better location or a better hotel. From the moment we set foot in the place we were made to feel at home. The staff from the management to the cleaning staff were genuinely extremely friendly and helpful. Food at breakfast and throughout the day was excellent. Nothing was was too much trouble. Thank you to all the staff for a lovely visit - it was so good we extended our original booking by two days.
Thirsk is a lovely town, excellently located for seeing Yorkshire. We will definitely be returning.

As others have mentioned, this hotel looks great from the outside and you'd struggle to find anywhere more central in Thirsk.

I've stayed here a couple of times and each time had the same room. I have asked for a different room but have been told there is nothing else available. It may be other rooms are amazing however my review is based on two stays in the same room (Room 1)

Booking:- Couldn't be simpler. Phone them up, agree dates and rate and get told all OK. No card details, no booking reference so a little unnerving but on both occasions the room's been there when I got there.

Arrival and check-in:- Again all very simple. They do have a residents car-park round the back but you'd never find it without being directed to it. So just park on the square out front, go in and sort the car out later.

Room:- Unfortunately here's where the market-town hotel image starts to fade. I've only had room 1 which is directly above the reception desk. The outlook is onto a jumble of fire escapes and pigeon spiked windowsills from other rooms. It's dark and gloomy. The room itself has all the usual bits, bed, TV, wardrobe, desk, bathroom etc but everything looks like it needs a good scrub and few quid spending on the decor and fixings. Wallpaper peeling from the walls, cheapest possible light fittings, smallest TV possible.

The Bathroom again needs sorting out; wallpaper peeling, you have to reverse diagonally into the toilet to navigate yourself between the toilet roll holder and the sink, the shower is over the bath but the bath so narrow that you spend the entire time fending off the shower curtain, you can't open the bathroom window so once it's fogged up it stays fogged up.

Sleep is pretty much all you're going to want to do in the room. Luckily it's so gloomy that I have no idea if the curtains are any good but I can confirm that the people upstairs went to the toilet pretty often during the night as each flush was routed loudly through a pipe in my room. There are also some noisy fans among the clutter of fire escapes that rumble away all night.

In general the room is just not a nice place to be although it probably would not take a lot to fix this and I hope most other rooms would have a much nicer outlook.

Breakfast was good, room rate reasonable and overall I would come back again but would not go out of my way to stay here.

Room Tip: Room 1 has WIFI but gloomy, noisy and in need of some investment.

We have stayed at this hotel on and off for the last twelve years..... We love it.... The rooms are quirky and spacious. The breakfast are good quality local produce. The evening meals are second to none. Jo and her staff are always very welcoming and nothing is to much trouble . We will be back.

My husband and I found this hotewl to be both charming and full of pleasant, friendly staff who could not do enough for you.
The hotel itself has all the ambience of a listed coaching inn. All original features including uneven floors, wooden beams and not the standard 6" foot doorframes throughout therefore adding to the charm and character.
Each room is decorated in a colour theme in keeping with the style of the building.
We would highly recommend the hotel for both its staff, food and charm.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were always happy to accommodate in terms of food and help with chosing local attractions to visit during our stay.
