Having just moved into the area we popped in here for a drink after passing numerous times and thinking the place looked inviting. Wow what a surprise, the welcome from Tom at the bar was something totally alien in this day and age of poor customer service, Tom actually welcomed us with a friendly chat and happy to advise on a wine choice. We soon got chatting and he offered us menus to look at, a glance at the upcoming evening special events and introduced us to the chef and owner Alex. We enquired about the Valentines menu and after been told it was still undecided he offered to post it to us when it was finalised. We were shown around the restaurant and wonderful fresh and inviting fridges with meats and fish ready for the evening meals, how wonderful to see the menu before your eyes to help with your choice. After chatting more to Tom re local knowledge (good luck with your NVQ Tom you have a great future ahead) we left promising to go back and sample some wonderful dishes on the menu. So happy the Kings Arms is our local!!

I live not too far away so this review isn't based on a one off visit, its the product of many outings. They have followed a slightly different approach to the norm, there's a menu for starters and desserts but for mains there is a glass fronted butcher's fridge where all the available meat, fish, poultry, etc are on display. You simply decide which you fancy and how much and how you'd like it cooked and what sauces, vegs or salad you'd like to go with it and it is cooked fresh, none of that freezer>microwave>plate scenario here!!
The food is always superb, cooked to perfection and well presented. As for price, there are cheaper venues locally, however for quality and value there is no better in the area.
If price is an over-riding issue then mid-week there is an amazing early bird offer of a main course for £6.
Finally the beers, always 3 real ales, all locally sourced, reasonably priced and always in superb condition, I still haven't worked why this spot isn't in the Good Beer Guide.
In summary we visit regularly and it is the default venue for when we are entertaining friends, and in all those visits i've never heard a bad word about the place from anyone.

Being local we felt a little strange deciding to take advantage of the dinner b and b offer of £100 per couple on Friday evening rather than drive home! However, we absolutely made the right decision. The food was fantastic, service extremely attentive and the room was immaculate. Thw whole experience was a real treat. We will be doing this again and can recommend this to everyone who's anyone!
Thank you to all the staff.

We stayed at the Kings Arms on 30th Aug 2012. We were at Thirsk to go to the races, whilst visiting from Australia. We were travelling with friends from UK. We found the rooms at the pub to be delightful. Exceptionally clean and obviously recently updated in a very tasteful way. "Dad" looked after the bar during the day and made us very welcome on our arrival. That night we ate in the resteraunt where Alex, the son, is the chef. Our meals were ordered directly with Alex who ensured you have your meal the way you would like it, and he will make suggestions if you wish. Our meals were served timely, and everything was hot and delicious. We enjoyed our meal there so much, we returned the following night after the races. I would certainly return to the Kings Arms if I am ever in the area again, excellant accommodation, and wonderful staff- A very well run family pub.

Just stayed for one night at The Kings Arms.We were very impressed with the hotel.
The room was lovely & very comfortable.I felt the pictures did not do the rooms justice. My only problem was that I found the shower a bit high to climb into!
The staff were very welcoming & very helpful.

The food was exceptional. One of the nicest meals I have ever had.

We will return for longer next time as the hotel is ideally situated for the many places of interest locally.

.We will be returning soon

We stayed here in one of the new rooms (Three of the five have been modernised) and were extremely impressed. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and spacious. Our only minor criticism was that the bathroom window which faced the main road was clear glass. With that said there was a blind you could pull down but it meant you then had to put the light on. Apart from that the room could not be faulted.

We also had a meal in the restaurant and the food was amazing. We still talk about the food now. The quality of the meat was outstanding. We had a starter and main. We would have loved a desert but were too full.

For £80 this place is a bargain. Tasteful rooms with very good facilities. We had a fantastic welcome and felt at ease straight away. The room was very clean (faultless). If anything the pictures really don't do justice to how nice these rooms are. The bed was firm and we enjoyed a great nights sleep. Alex the chef cooks everything from scratch and is more than happy to recommend sauces and adapt meals to suit the diner. Alex and his family love the business and make the kings arms a shinning example of how a b & b should be run!
