This truly was a superb place to stay. The proprietor Barry was a true gentleman and host and nothing was to much trouble. He was interested in everything you were doing and was a mine of information on local places of interest. I would have no shadow of a doubt in recommending St James House as a place to stay.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are excellent as Barry makes the stay truly memorable, he is an excellent host and...

We recently had the opportunity to stay one night at St. James House in Thirsk. We wished that we could have stayed longer! It was delightful and insightful. Barry, the proprietor, was a wonderful host. He was so helpful when asked about routes and things to do and see...a true English gentleman. Also, our accomodations were lovely, and we were served a delicious Yorkshire breakfast.

We only stayed one night, it's a charming old house full of interesting artefacts and antiques and owned by a very friendly and chatty Barry who has good knowledge of the local area. The house is only a minutes walk from the centre of the town and there are plenty of pubs and places to eat nearby with parking outside for three or so cars.

As a regular visitor for over ten years, I can say that there is no stone unturned when I visit by the owner Barry and staff...
The breakfasts are tasty and ample and nothing is too much trouble.
The location means that it is a few minutes walk into the market town of Thirsk and central for the Moors and Dales.
The place is good value, characterful, comfortable and well furnished with period furniture. The rooms are large with en-suite facilities and cleanliness is the word.
Parking outside the house available too.....

Room Tip: I have stayed in different rooms and they all very satisfactory

Me and my partner stayed at this B&B for 3 nights and had a lovely stay, it was in a great location just a short walk from the main town of Thirsk and only a short drive away from York and other places, we had a really yummy fry-up every morning which was a great start to the day, the owner was really friendly and very welcoming. The room we stayed in was of a large size with plenty of space and was really comfortable, i will defiantly stay again in the near future.

Stayed at Barry's B&B for a week back in August 2011 as a central location to explore North Yorkshire. Not only was it a pleasant stay but for anyone who's unsure of where and what to see around the area, Barry turned out to be a wealth of knowledge. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.. Thanks Ned & Jules

I have been revisiting ST. James House over the last EIGHT years. It always feels like a home from home. Barry is a great guy, friendly, helpful, and above all is a complete fountain of local Yorkshire knowledge. The house is large, comprising of two houses knocked into one, overlooking a pleasant green 5 mins. from the town. It has a old period decor which may not be to everyones taste but not all want brash new styling when all you want is a base for walking and sightseeing. Your guaranteed a warm welcome, a hearty breakfast, and a great stay.

Room Tip: There are en-suite rooms
