My husband took me away for a lovely treat this weekend and we stayed in the Hoste hotel.
What a lovely hotel we had the room which was described as e old penthouse room.
From checking in to departing we had a fantastic time, the staff were all very helpful and we had a lovely treat.
If only we had realised we could of taken our pooch max, we will surely go back and next time take max.
Thank you for a nice clean hotel.

Room Tip: Seems like all the rooms would be a good choice.

Disappointing in almost every respect.
We were shunted over the road to "The Vine" with no prior notice. Thankfully the weather was good, otherwise it would have been even more of a pain. The room was small with poor sound insulation. Use of the garden by other guests was intrusive. The car park was inadequate.
Service and staff attention poor and somewhat 'sniffy' at times.
Breakfast quality variable. Restaurant shambolic. We seemed to be lucky in some respects and did not have to return food.
The hotel knew we were less than happy with the stay but interestingly chose not to raise this at checkout or indeed ask us about any aspect of our stay.
Definitely not value for money and certainly not to be recommended.

I stayed at the hotel last weekend and had a lovely time staying here after having a night at the Carriage.

The staff at the hotel were so friendly, and soon accommodated my request to be moved to the main hotel. My puppy had damaged her leg and everyone was asking after her and making sure she was ok. It really is a dog friendly place. (main restaurant no dogs, we ate in the lounge and the atmosphere was lovely.

Reception staff were great, the food was lovely. Sometimes the service was a little slow but then we were there to relax so didn't mind.

Rooms are beautiful, would stay here again.

I stayed in the Railway Carriage and was actually slightly disappointed. The carriage is much smaller than the pictures on the internet perceive it to be. I asked to be moved back to the Hoste for our second night.

Check in for the Carriage wasn't really explained that well, the front door to the building looks like it's someone else's front door. If you want to have a really peaceful night away from the village (10 min walk to the Hoste) this would be the place for you, but for us it was just too quiet and too small!

The carriage has been reconditioned very well, it was an experience but one night was enough!!

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary and there were many parts of our stay that were fantastic - we started with a trip to the spa where we had the outdoor hot tub all to ourselves and could order drinks from the bar as the sun went down - excellent start to our stay. We were in the vine house, a lovely building with great reception rooms - our room was nice (more cushions on the bed than you'd know what to do with), but for the money was a bit on the small side and I don't think one of the ones that has been renovated yet giving it a slightly 'faded luxury' feel.
We had dinner at the restaurant and unfortunately there was a mix up with our order which meant we waited for an hour between our starter and main. Staff were very apologetic and a few free glasses of wine and dessert made up for the mistake and we had a very pleasant evening finished off with a drink in the cosy bar. Breakfast served outside in the courtyard garden (it was a gorgeous day) was a lovely finish to a good stay.

First off, I feel I must split my review into two as we had a very different experience with regards to the accommodation and the overall service. We were lucky enough to stay in the Railway Carriage - which is truly outstanding. Luxurious fittings, unique feel and to top it all the dog was allowed to stay with us! The Railway Carriage has been restored to a very high spec, the space has been well used and the overall feeling is one of sheer opulence. Good sized brass bed, seating area and large flat screen TV, fresh cafetiere coffee, mint hot chocolate and Molton Brown bathroom products. The bathroom is equally impressive with a large old fashioned brass sink but very modern walk-in shower lit by LED's. The carriage is actually on an old railway track next to the railway masters cottage and a small garden has been created with a seating area - great for those brings pets! All this made for a great two night stay and although some people have complained I really loved the fact that it was separate from the main building - this did mean a short walk across for breakfast but quite lovely meandering through the stunning village. The Hoste Arms itself is obviously a 'destination' hotel - very trendy, beautifully furnished and what looks to be a stunning spa. The reception staff (Jude) were outstanding throughout the stay - good humoured and a real credit to the venue. The restaurant staff seem under par and for the price paid I would have expected a whole lot more with regards to service...the food itself is truly sublime but the service throughout the stay (breakfast/dinner) left me wondering at the odds of what was on offer and what was being delivered. The gold star for this place comes from the fact that they happily accept dogs - really good to find somewhere where your pampered pooch can sit under the table whilst you tuck into deliciously prepared, fresh, local food...they even bring dog bowls! I'll definitely be returning as they have the main house, railways cottage and a separate building which all call out to be explored but would probably look to dine out at other local establishments.

Stayed in Room 25, which had the best shower I have had in years. Bed was ok, nice sheets and pillows but mattress was right on the edge of being uncomfortable. Lots of space in the room, and enjoyed the Spa a geat deal. Staff were all brilliant, very friendly and keen to help.
Food was a bt of a let down, in all honesty. I overheard the barman saying the had 300 covers the night we ate there, and i strongly got the impression that the restaurant was too stretched to keep the quality high. My oysters were badly shucked, half had broken shell in them, and the pork belly main was very close to being returned to the kitchen, for being over done. Sticky toffee pudding dessert was also too dry and over cooked. The restaurant itself was very nice, atmosphere and buzz were all good, and the garden looked lovely. Breakfast the next morning was solid, though my wife had eggs benedict which came served with only one egg on one half of a muffin - where was the other half, and second egg? Shocking....
