My husband and I had a wonderful stay in Youlgrave. The cottage has everything you could need and is so comfortable and central to the many places of interest. Maggie's walk deserves a special mention, we enjoyed it that much we did it 3 times and is a lovely wind down following a busy day.
I would highly recommend the cottage as a great base in which to explore the area.

Apple Tree Cottage proved to be a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside by bicycle although low gears are essential as the terrain is mountainous for someone from Lincolnshire! I was given a warm welcome Ian and Maggie.
Wanting to be somewhere central to Bakewell and Chatsworth I chose Youlgrave a small villlage with charm and history in a rural location. A day visiting Chatsworth was great but a little overwhelming in the sheer vastness of the house and land , the crowds ....and it was partly under repair. By far my favourite was Haddon Hall....a beautifully presented and charming home ,and no hordes of visitors. Otherwise I was more than happy to spend time in and around Apple Tree Cottage. Maggie and Ian both welcoming , helpful and available to assist with information, ideas for local walks by the river....a must with ponds that were home to water fowl, ducks and coots. Along the way cows, walkers and their dogs. Tranquility. The cottage perfectly presented , full of light and beautifully located overlooking the dale with everything you might need for a few days or weeks. An excellent pub across the road and the new Town Shop full of wonderful fare. Thank you both ..I loved it.
The pictures don't do this place justice; when we arrived on a sunny April Saturday, the view from the garden patio absolutely took our breath away! The cottage is surrounded by a stunning Derbyshire landscape with plenty of room to sit outside and soak up the natural beauty of the area. There are too many gorgeous local walks to list, however Maggie provides a handy local area guide filled to the brim with useful information such as walks, restaurants, amenities and other attractions. We particularly loved the Lathkill Dale walk and the pub opposite (Farmyard Inn) has a lovely atmosphere and serves fantastic food, lots of choice for vegetarians too (You may need to book!) Be aware the local shop is very small and has limited opening times, so bring food and drink with you.
The interior was spotlessly clean, the kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, the bed was extremely comfortable, shower facilities were also excellent - excellence is a theme that appears to continue throughout! If you feel the cold easily this won't be a problem for you at Apple Tree Cottage; as well as central heating there were extra blankets and a plug in heater. There was a DVD and CD player with a few CDs and DVDs to choose from, which was a nice touch.
The hosts were absolutely fantastic. Maggie visited us on arrival to ensure everything was ok for us, they live next door so contacting them was super easy, however they left us to it and never pestered. They also were very accommodating with our booking which we really appreciated.
Many thanks for making my birthday one to remember,
Steve & Georgina
Have just returned from a three night break at Apple Tree Cottage and we had a great time, the cottage was as described and had everything we needed, very clean and comfortable with great views along with some feathered visitors seen in the trees just outside the cottage windows... Youlgrave itself is a perfect location with many walks from the village, we didn't actually use our car during our stay. Really enjoyed our meal at the Farmyard Inn just across the road from the cottage and the Peak Feast Bakery is a must to try, especially the Bakewell tart. Thanks Maggie we really enjoyed our stay in your cottage and would love to come back, it was perfect.
This was an instance of where the pictures matched reality. The cottage was in pristine condition and contained everything you may need in daily life we thought. It is detached and set away from other houses and has a private patio out front with superb views over the Bradford dale. This gave a lovely sense of privacy and quiet yet it is just 15m or so off the high street (via a gravel drive that gave rare parking in this village) and the great Farm Yard Inn across the road. This and the 2 other pubs in the village serve food so no need to cook if you don't want to. Also, you get a voucher to use in the local Peak Bakery which was most appreciated. The bedroom and living area are clean and modern and very comfortable. After a long walk in the surrounding stunning countryside (handy walk suggestions with take away map pages are in cottage folder) it was lovely to relax and rest here. Good TV signal and screen with DVD player available, wi-fi was a bit up and down but usable. We shall return.
